Does anyone know of someone selling replacement baffles? My 283 has it removed and plugged. I want to run a tri-power setup with a road draft tube and a oil fill tube. I'd like it to be as original looking as possible. I'll be running closed valve covers (script) so a PCV setup isn't in the cards. I did a search and haven't found anything but people explaining how to replace them. Any help would be very appreciated
You need one of these little devices, GM made them for 283 and 327 in mid to late '60s, replaces the road draft tube, plumb a pcv valve in line to carb fitting. No need to defile the valve covers.
It seems like I saw a picture on here of what looked like a small engine muffler used as a baffle under the intake. Gary
Thanks everyone. I'm still at the parts collection stage of my build. And I might hit you up saltflats if I don't find one locally. The portland swap meet is coming up so who knows... Might find one there
Food for thought-- An option would be the system as used on 66-67 Chevy's, it was called a fresh air tube, this is the curved 66-67 Chevelle, Nova and 67 Camaro, version, the 65 Corvette and 65 Chevelle was straight and routed on other side of the distributor. Both are available as reproductions. Note pcv hookup , oil fill tube, script valve covers. I found this oem one years ago at the Portland swap meet. A little creativity may be in order for air cleaner hookup to your tri power.
I have a 61 Dodge, with a 318 Poly engine. I wanted to put in a PCV, but not ruin the looks or put extra holes in it. Luckily the valve covers had holes in the, one for a breather, one for the road draft tube. The breather I left in, for clean air entering. You can do this on your filler neck. If you have the road draft hole in the back on your block, you can do what i did to replace the tube. I took some tubing, cut out some round discs to fit the inner diameter of the tubing ( which fit into the existing road draft hole grommet) I then cut off an edge of each disc, tack welded inside the tubing, staggering the open spaces. then welded on a fitting to run a PCV valve, with a hose to the intake/carb. Easy, and it works. on the car 2 years now.
Well its not installed because there is a freeze plug in the hole in this block but you should get the idea.
This motor i just took out of my truck i develpoed a bottom end knock. So im selling the draft tube i guess since i was gona s**** the hole thing lol Sent from my LGMS631 using H.A.M.B. mobile app

Hello, I have a 283 with original non pcv valve covers. I am running a pcv from the breather posted above to the rear of my carb. ***with the air cleaner on you can't see it there*** The vacuum of the carb is pulling the air from the breather. I have had luck using these search terms "oil separator", "crank breather" and "pcv sbc" in addition to what was posted above. You might get lucky at a swap meet or where someone is upgrading. I have used 1967 corvette 283 when I go to napa to get a new inline pcv valve. Or you can probably clean one in carb dip if you have an old one.
here's pics of the older draft tube ***embly that just ran down the back of the block...note attached wire loom...
