Have a 1981 SBC 305 with an edelbrock 1405 carb. No EGR valve and all pollution devices have been removed. Can anyone recommend the proper PCV valve to use. I've tried a few different valves and when installed they produce a vacuum leak issue (high idle) When I plug the front vacuum port the idle is perfect. When I hook the pcv to the port I can't get the idle down below 900 rpm. I know I don't have the correct pcv valve.

  2. Pics, or a part number of the current valve you have would be helpful.

Also a picture showing how you have it hooked up will get a quick recommendation.

  3. You may try a PCV valve for an '81 305?

What is your idle vacuum? Thy trimming your carb without the PCV valve hooked up. The easiest way for novice (not to say that you are one) is to hook up a vacuum gauge and then set about trimming the carb, moving back and forth then fiddling with idle speed as you go until you achieve the highest possible vacuum.

if your PCV valve is causing a "vacuum" leak it is because you are not pulling enough vacuum to pull the check ball up and close off the hole.
