had a '79 coupe deville that was the light blue metallic that would peel off. they did prep but had to replace a chrome taillight housing that got "ground" in the process. they wouldn't paint the doorjambs, etc., so do your own prep, especially if you want the car a different color. remove as much chrome as possible. pay extra and get the clear coat. they did a pretty decent job on my caddy for not a lot of money.

I have used Maaco only three times. One shop was very good and the price was high, but fair. One shop was reasonably cheap and the job was commensurate. A friend hired them for body work and paint and he got totally screwed and was very disappointed. So you never know.

I had a local Maaco paint my coupe last year- I did the body work and was pretty broke at paint time. I talked to the manager who seemed interested in the job ( instead of another Honda or Toyota ).The guy that was going to paint it pointed out a couple of areas he thought needed a little extra " love" and I told him "Do your thing". They did primer/sealer and a two tone green and black paint job with a "flat" clearcoat for $1200. bucks. It took longer than they had quoted, but for the money I thought it looked pretty good. But I believe as said, it's luck of the draw sometimes. I was lucky!
