    The Al Show

Hi everyone. I'm Al, an old timer who's been hot rodding since the 50s. I worked on my neighbors Hemi powered Fiat when I was 15 that won it's cl***, A/Altered, at the 1959 winter nationals in Detroit. The car was featured in Hot Rod Magazine in 1960. We raced at the Sanford Me airport at first but then the car owner, Jack Doyle, opened New England Dragway in Epping N.H.
I live in Fryeburg Maine now and I've never quit building cars. I have a 40 Ford pickup that my brother bought in 62. He gave it to me after I lost mine in a fire with five other hot rods. I was abandoned in the woods when I got it. The engine was stuck and the frame was broken in the middle. I put it on a new frame and made four good fenders from ten junk fenders. It's flat black but I didn't want a rat rod. We originally painted it that color in 62 the day after we got it. I raked it and put Moon discs on it. I broke tradition when I adapted an 85 Fiero front end under it. I did my own upholstery. Black and white tuck and roll on a bench seat. It looks old school but it has modern touches.
But my Roadster is going to be 100% old school. I'm not using any parts that weren't available in the 60s. The project started when I traded for a 31 Ford roadster cowl and the back half of a mystery car that I haven't yet been able to identify. I found two doors at the Carlisle swap meet and I was good to go. I made a frame from 2x4 steel. Put in a dropped front axle and mounted the rear on a 32 Ford cross member and spring. I had a 1957 T-bird 312 engine with three carbs that was perfect for it. I had a fibergl*** 32 grille shell but my brother found a steel one hanging in an antique store and got it for $50. It has a 39 Ford dashboard and banjo wheel hooked to a Mustang box.

I'm currently the president of the Maine Obsolete Auto League. I found this site when I was looking for information on the swap meet at Amherst N.H. I heard the owner died and the family wasn't sure if they were going to hold it this year. It looks like they aren't doing it for 2015. I wanted to p*** out flyers for the swap meet our club is putting on in Maine. This will be our second annual swap meet. We were packed last year so we have more space this year. We have the entire infield of the horse racing track at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds in Fryeburg Maine. I'll try later to post it on the events page.
