Just finished (for the second time) Burt Munro's biography, One Good Run, by Tim Hanna. Love the book and am now hungry for another hotrod or drag racing related biography. Anything you guys recommend?
The search tool (it looks like a magnifying gl***) is your friend. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/o-t-car-books.178896/ I'd particularly recommend Andy Granatelli's "They Call Me Mister 500".
Smokey Yunick three book autobiography. And that guy knows how to put auto in a biography [emoji41] a little about everything, and a lot laughs, tears and dirty talk. Loved every minute of it. Damn good. And also Edelbrock: Made in USA. Also damn good, good story, great people and awesome pictures! Is the Burt Munro story on Amazon/eBay? I would love to read that!
CHALLENGER: Mickey Thompson's own story of his life of speed By: Mickey Thompson & Griffith Borgeson 1961 Kind of a rare book to find. Excellent read. I have a copy of the paperback for sale if interested.
Should be, that's were I got mine. Just make sure you get One Good Run and not the abridged and shortened version of the same book, named Burt Munro: The Legend of Speed. Good luck.
Another good movie is "Heart Like a Wheel",the story of Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney in the world of dragsters on the strip
Michigan Madman by E.J. Potter Don't no where to find one been looking myself. 2 wheel crazy SBC powered motorcycle. Drag race exhibition. Also built an Allison powered 57 Plymouth. Tractor pulling too.
Not much Hot Rod related, but I enjoyed the biography of CF Kettering, inventor of electric starter, "modern" points ignition, ethyl gasoline, Delco, etc, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Professional-amateur-biography-Franklin-Kettering/dp/B0006D7OLO
Books? As in Bio? Surely there's one somewhere around here... (Mikey'sPinstriping and Mazooma approved!)
Gas & Guns, here's what Amazon had to say, sounds like his daughter might be where to ask. http://www.amazon.com/Michigan-Madm...6C/ref=tmm_pap_***le_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=&qid=
Goes like Hell, the story of Ford's LeMans effort in the 60's. Flat out by Albert Drake, best book that describes racing on the early lake beds.
Just google E.J. Potter book, and the site will come up. there is a phone number and an address that you can use to order the book or the tape.
Get the Don Garlits auto biography buy all means. It is detailed and quite personal, while giving an insight to the evolution of big time drag racing. Also there is a bio by Garlits about thrills spills and close calls that is a good read as well.
X2 on The Michigan Mad Man - E.J. Potter. I feel lucky to have tracked him down and got an autographed copy when most thought he was long dead. His stories were great and funny in a way all of us gearheads can relate to.
Just found a number - 1-877-a-madman E.J. is p***ed on now but I'll call the number maybe tomorrow. Thanks
