I'm running an old Hilborn converted to EFI on my Hemi. I bought it from a guy who hadn't finished installing it. Any HAMB'ers done this before? Any ideas on setup, linkages, sensors, etc.? I hear once they're set up, they're bulletproof, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel trying to dial it in.
what kind of injectors are you using? seems a multi-port with a map sensor, o2, throttle position, water temp and a electronic dizzy hidden in the guts of the original would do it. i think megasquirt has a setup for it. there are tons of threads on setting up stand alone fuel systems in the import forums. ii think 85-87 or so ford truck efi could work, but i've been wrong before.
Actually you can buy everything you need ot make it run from holley or edelbrock. Sensore computer fuel pump etc. But it aint gonna be cheap. I'm not seeing much more than a gutted hilborn unit with some injectors installed. No fuel rails, no pressure regulator, etc. There is a guy on here geminiefi or something like that that does those conversions. Maylook in the members list and find him. I understand he does good work and he could probably get you pointed in the right direction. Found him here's a short cut to his profile. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=10835 give him a shout he can get you hooked right up.
Check with Kinsler, if I remember correctly they do EFI conversions on old hilborns. You could also get with MOTEC, they are mainly racing EFI, their rep told me at Daytona a few years ago that for 8 grand he would come to my shop install a system get it up and running and teach me how to tune it. I never took him up on it because we sold all the road race stuff and went roundy round instead (read went broke).
Alfin, My kid built and tuned my efi converson. He go to school at MIT in Boston he is returning there Saterday. He is capeable of doing setup .Do not know if he has time.PM me if you show intest.
The linkage isn't very tough, many different ways to do it. I went on the rear p***enger side with an arm and pull it with a Lokar cable. The injectors aren't bad to plumb, depends on how you want the finished product to look. I didn't like the huge m*** of the fuel rails, so I dropped them down low and ran SS lines up to the injectors. I feed the back of each rail and have my reg at the front, byp*** comes off the bottom of the reg and returns to the fuel cell. I run an Aeromtive pump controller too.
Here is a shot of just the fuel system, from a -10 supply line to a -8 return line. I run 48pph injectors with a Accel Gen7 system, I use a dual sync Accel distributor (sequential) and a wideband o2...
Here is my set up. Bob Ream at imagine injection, glendale as did thr basic conversion, started with Fast EZ ECU, that was my mistake, changed over t o Holley dominator, problems solved. Attempted to use Joe Hunt mag look distribtor, another major $$ mistake. Finally with the help of Eclispe Engineering ,in Whittier,Ca we are actually making a Scintilla distributor that looks just like a old style mag with genuine Vertex cap, works perfectly with all EFI systems as well as with non EFI applications. Chevy and Early Hemi in stock Ford by June not cheap, but comparable to the total cost of a Hunt unit after a couple of fruitless trips back and forth , give me a ring if you want to get it right the first time.
