    Hello everyone,

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’m working on my 291 Desoto which currently has attached to the right side of the water pump a contraption that double as a trans cooler and lower radiator hose housing. What I’ve been looking for is the lower hose housing like the one on the second picture to swap mine out with.

What year engine did this housing (on the 2nd picture) appear on and does anyone have an idea where I can find one? Or if you know of an aftermarket one that will work just as well. i was able to find one on that auction site but its seems pitted.

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, easy to make in mild steel or stainless...this way you make it fit your needs.

  7. If you're not running a heater, then plug the holes with pipe plugs....

Crazy Steve is correct. Since they are for supply/return of heater water, they are shut off when the heater 'temp' control is at the 'cool' or 'off' setting and no circulation takes place. So, in general, they have no effect on normal engine cooling. Blocking them with plugs is the same thing.

That water pump tube is just like the one on my 55 Desoto.

If you block them then it is a good idea to drill a 1/8" hole in your thermostat.

I've see this in other 55's, I'm wondering if it had to do with the type of transmission in the car.

Thanks! This is to keep the water temp accurate since the flow has changed correct?

Ray is correct! The flow has not changed. You have only plugged accessory holes.
A 0.125 hole is probably too small to see any changes in the temp gauge. It is often used to 'burp' air that can get trapped after you have the system open.

Thank you for the explanation. A lot of this is new to me so this definitely helps.
