Please help I.D. early hemi lifters.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thecarfarmer, Feb 3, 2006.

  1. Happy Friday, y'all!

I got a set of these bad boys about a year back off eBay, along w/ a couple cams for 331-392.

The one cam was a roller grind; can't remember whose, and it's buried away deep under a bench right now.

The lifters are hollow inside, but have an oil hole in the side, and one in the bottom too. And I didn't get any guts for these, and the seller didn't know what brand they were. But, I'll let the pics do the talking...

    Can anyone I.D. these?

    Thanks much.

That's a set of vintage lefthanded Telecaster 10-42 Humbucker lifters from Leo's Speed Shop in Fullerton, CA..just my guess.

  4. Good guess, Krooser, but not quite...

Nothin' here came from Leo's shop, but the strings are 'F-spaced' (8-38 lefty). Neck is Jackson, preamp was custom made by Aphek; the rest is all aftermarket or scratch built.

Problem is that the lifters have a step in 'em about halfway up, or they'd make great slides.

  5. I'm pretty knowledgeable about hemi's and I've never seen anything like that. That means it's not a mainstream cam companies product. I have some of the very first rollers ever made and the body is solid brass. I've never seen any with the step.

I have a set of the same exact lifters which came out a desoto hemi.

I am pretty sure they are herberts. I have a copy of Hot Rod (november '53) which has an ad for herbert roller lifters on page 73. It is exactly this lifter. I don't have a scanner, otherwise I would put a picture here.

    Hopefully these pictures work....

One is of the lifter I have which is the same as yours. One is an unknown roller lifter for a desoto hemi. The other is the ad I was talking about.

  8. Yup, that's them!

Thanks Blair, for digging that out.

A little while ago, I was on my 'user CP page' and deleted a bunch of pics, inlcuding the ones for the lifters - I figured nobody was going to come up with this... just goes to show:
