What is a reasonable asking price for a 49-53 mercury 4" crank with stock rods? Just pulled from the engine stock as is. Thanks Anthony Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Its only worth what some one is willing to pay..................... not being a smart ass just telling it like todays market is, post a price with a best offer in the classifieds there will be plenty of people getting back to you, keep in mind even if your stroking your engine or what ever its a good thing to have the orginal stuff still hanging around
Thanks for the reply Road Angels! I'll go ahead and do what you mentioned on the classified section. I'm not going to stroke my engine (I love the idea of having a 4" Merc crank). It's just that I have three complete engines, a 49', 50', and 53'. The 49' is for me but the other two I'm thinking of parting out for the hot rod commuting Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Depends on condition, stock or 10/10 could be $250-$350; thinner cranks(turned smaller)less money.Brand new crank available from SCAT around $600-$700.
About as much as a ne scat crank then you would have to come up with rods. OK so much for being an ass about 3-400 dollars around here.
$400 is a good ball park figure. one thing about the aftermarket cranks--i've heard a lot of stories about the "more affordable" ones being so out of balance that mallory metal was needed to get things right. also, they may not be straight. one person who told me about this was the local crank grinder. also, those aftermarket rods are bigger than stockers and you may have to relieve the bottom of the cylinders for them to work. so, if possible, stick with the ford stuff. even those skinny rods are pretty strong!
uh keep it for yourself.............you may regret selling it................250-350 depending on condition
LOL I sold my last 4" crank for 100 bucks and remember thinking man I got in that guys butt. That was 30 years ago and I needed/wanted one less that 6 months after and couldn't lay my hands on one to save my soul.
If I had two that would not be enough and I seldom play with a flatty anymore. If I did decide to build one though I would want to give it every edge I could.
12-15 years ago I took a perfect, standard merc crank to the Lincoln swap meet and put a $125 price tag on it. One guy was looking at it when another guy reached over his shoulder and handed me the cash. Well......that didn't go over well with the first guy and they began to argue...escalated to a full on fist fight. The "looker" limped away and I took the 2nd guy's money. Next time I'll price my merc cranks a little higher...but the entertainment value of a fist fight was almost worth the loss I incured by selling too cheap.. ......................$250-$350 is going price around here.........now.
I bought a complete 51 Merc 8cm for 200 dollars, pan rail cracked. Had to go to Albuquerque to pick it up. Took the wife and made a mini vacation. Best deal I've made in a while.
