I recently picked up a '32 Roadster with severe front end damage. I'd like to get it back to driving condition reusing as many of the good parts as I can salvage. The dropped tube, Lucky 7 axle is trashed. It is a chromed unit with a coil over setup. I thought I'd just order a new one from Luck 7 only to find out they're no longer in business. I'd like to find a replacement axle with the coil over lower shock mounts already attached and chromed. Can anyone direct me to where I can find such a thing. I've checked all of the obvious venders to no avail. image.jpg image.jpg

What you are looking for probably does not exist.

At-least not one that would be a direct-fit.

Not much in "hot rodding" is standard measurements from one company to the next. That type of front axle is pretty specialized. Your best bet is to buy a plain tube axle from a place like Superbell, and weld mounts for your coilovers to it. Then chrome it. This way you know it would fit your odd application.

I appreciate the feedback. I was "hoping for" another answer to make it easier.

I know this next question has been battered around on here before but maybe there's some fresh thoughts on the subject. If a direct fit or bolt on solution isn't available should I consider eliminating the coil-overs and put in a buggy spring set up? Right now I have cross steering with hairpins. The leaf spring will go into the cross member. All I need to change then is the upper shock mounts. As far as work, it's a horse a piece, weld lower shock mounts to a plain axle and get chromed and stay with coil overs or replace the upper shock mounts and end up with the traditional setup.

My vote would be for the traditional buggy spring front, more work but worth it I think.

Since your already doing repairs I would trash the coilover setup and go with a more traditional I beam/hairpin/spring over axle setup. I done 100's of these and over the years had very few customer complaints. It'll never ride quite like a new Lincoln but if done right it's dam near bullet proof.

I can't believe how some front brakes are set up. That is all wrong, but a lot of people do their front ends with absolutely no concept of scrub radius being so far out.

Disc rotors usually mess up the scrub radius, but then this builder also used super thick spacers to mess it up to the point of being dangerous.

  9. Well I certainly wouldn't suggest a traditional setup.

Make it easy on yourself, find and axle and a buggy spring and get after it. hell I wouldn't even bother chroming it if it was not already chrome, paint works real well on a deuce. ;)

Any competent hot rod shop can duplicate that front end if you want to keep the same set up otherwise just order a whole new axle set up. There is one for sale on the here for 500 not chromed. The Early V8 Store.

Get another tube axle made up, have it chromed.

That looks like a 5" drop axle, Magnum suspension has one but you will have to add coil over brackets

I thought the general consensus was that a tube axle with hairpins was not a good deal, because of the lack of "twistability" of a tube axle going up driveways, etc......................

I called Summit. They're the ones that told me that Lucky 7 is out of business. They have a few prices left, no axles. They said it takes time to get rid of the listings.
