Has anyone on here ran a older Mustang radiator in there hotrod? I have a 27 on a 29 frame and don`t want to pay $$$ for a custom fit! My shell is a 32 commercial Ford that I have cut down to about 17" height & 19'' width. My place I buy radiators from say about 125.00 bucks and that`s a LONG way from the 500.00 on up ones! I`m running a small Ford motor & I am aware that you can get a different water pump where the hose goes in the other side. Any you got the time to measure one for me? Appreciate that! Also on a side note, I read a thread earlier in the day about some knothead that got the *** at the HAMB! I would like to let Ryan know that there are people like me that ''Really Do Appreciate'' the time & money that goes into a web site like this. I have recieved ALOT of help when I ask & some BS to but that`s real life! Maybe he doesn`t here it too much but he does deserve a THANK`S!
we're running a early sixties Mustang radiator in our T roadster, it needed to go down behind the front crossmember to fit under our chopped A grill, but offhand I believe overall height is 20 +/- and fit inside a T frame. Will measure tonight- keep in mind inlet/outlet are top left/bottom right
I'm running one in my A coupe... One with the shell and without. You can take it to any good radiator shop, and they'll put on fittings wherever you want. They fit better into a 32 shell if you flip them upside down too, thats how mine is. I'll go measure mine up too...
There's a flange on both sides that mounted it to the original core support, that you can cut off and bring the width down to 17 Inches. It's 20 3/4 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches thick. The local radiator shop flipped mine, put the fittings where I wanted and soldered on a new filler, for 50 bucks.
if that is still a little to large I may have a soloution. If you all will turn off your traditionalis ears for a moment I will explain . I needed a tiny radiator for the T with a track nose. I found on ebay an aluminum high performance radiator for a Honda Civic (yes I said Civic). It is supposed to be good enough to cool a 450 hp turbo charged four cylinder. I figure a 4 banger pushing those kind of numbers has got to run hotter than anything I have. I'll let you know when I get it running. The best part it was $90 bucks.
Mid 60s mustang radiators are quite common in hot rods. The one they called or call the desert cooler is the one to have. it runs about 150.00 or so. maybe less depending on where you find it.
I run a 65 mustang stick shift radiator on my 34. My grill shell is a cut down 29. The motor never gets over 180 in the middle of summer!
Thank`s guys for the info. I knew that several people run these. jonnycola, did you say that you had yours turned upside down to fit better? That`s what I like to hear, innovation!
Yeah Jonny I wonder how you thought of that.....? Seriuosly, we've run a bunch of Mustang radiators in a bunch of Hot rods, with all diffewrent engines and they work great...... When flipped, they look WAY better too, they fit real nice into the shell..... They look like a cut down early radiator...
And traditional, at least to the early '60s. We used V8 Falcon sprint versions pre Mustang - same thing. Never tried flipping one over though, guess I will on my current project, thanks to bleed.
I've been running a 65' Mustang Radiator in my 26'T (with a 26'T shell) from day one. Got it at NAPA. Works great. It's got a Speedway electric puller fan and cools a mild-cammed 327 with no problem. I run at 180 degrees most of the time. On really hot days, it'll climb to 190 degrees. That part number is 259-3#. Good luck!
I cut away about 4"on the sides of the 30 grill so I could slide it down enough to cover the gaps. Still working on it
