I was wondering if anyone knew, or can point me in the right direction to find out what freeze plugs I can get for my gm 261 inline 6? I'm rebuilding a true 261 to put in my 50 Chevy Styleline. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check with your local auto parts store, they should have every thing
you will need. Freeze plugs are a pretty universal part, if they have a
Dorman products cabinet you'll find them there.

Pioneer # PE103B will get you all the freeze plugs in brass, and the oil plugs too. $14.00 on E-Bay FYI. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I don't understand the question. When I want new freeze plugs i measure the hole and go to the store and buy new ones. What else do you need to know?

The rebuild is taking place at my buddies shop.. He is out of town and unavailable.. So I turned to the next best thing..This is the last part of the engine rebuild... This is my first engine rebuild, and apologize if my question or issue doesnt jive... I've never had to deal with freeze plugs..
As far as a true 261... The motor actually has the Captains bars on it.. In my research I've have read many instances where individuals have tried to pass a regular 235 as a 261..
Again I'm no expert, and turn to this forum for advice and guidance.. Again I apologize for the confusion..

  8. Just an FYI, we have run into a couple instances where a 'true' 261 did NOT have captains bars on it, apparently some of the Canadian castings did not have the bars. It is rare, but happens. That being said, this discussion doesn't make a bit of difference in the freeze plugs. Just get ones that fit :D
