About six weeks ago I shipped grill and bumper to a reputable company for rechroming. They contacted me based on photos someone showed them and gave me a fairly firm estimate. When they got the pieces they raised their estimate by $6,000. I had them ship it back. It came back with the grill and part of the bumper unusable. (I'm going to leave out the name of the company as we are still working some things out.)

Anyway the point is that I need to buy a new repop 4 bar GMC chrome grill for an AD COE. The grill itself is easy to find but the surround piece that makes it look like a 5 bar I can't find along with the larger surround piece that goes above it. The grill itself is the same as the pickups, but the other two are different.

Any ideas on where I can find them? I could use some good 57 Cadillac bumper bullets as well.

Raised by 6,000 dollars? YEOW! I must have no idea what it costs to get stuff chromed.

There were a couple COEs of your vintage at a local yard when I was there a few weeks ago. I don't know if they were GMC or Chevrolet. Nor do i have any idea how a NH to AL deal would work. Might be worth a call to Blanchard's in Wilton NH. They are very nice people that share our appreciation for old iron.

$6000. or $600...? I think you can get a submarine chromed for $6000.
I hope it all works out.

Thanks guys! Yes, the price went from $1500-$7500. To say I was shocked would be an understatement.

daddio, I didn't think about it but you're right, that is damned funny. At those prices I can barely get the sub I take to the submarine races chromed. :(

I've been meaning to send you a note about about this fiasco, maybe now that you're back from yet another awesome vacation I will.

Thanks vintage, I might check on that or at least see if he can send some pictures. I don't need a 3rd unfinished COE right now -- but I don't have a car hauler.

Right now I really need to find all the grill parts that were destroyed.

On a way off topic side note I almost had a serious delay. About an hour ago a I felt something hit my right foot pretty hard. I looked at my foot to see a 37" cottonmouth preparing to strike. Luckily my boots protected me from the first strike and I was out of range for the second. The snake is no longer living. Sure got my attention.

  9. I just crossed Alabama off my list of places I want to live, I'll put up with bear, wildcats, coyotes, wolves and the occasional rutting moose, but I really dislike poisonous snakes! LOL

I'd have those boots bronzed when they retired!

We have copperheads around here. As a kid I shoved my cousin away from a striking copperhead. We were dressed for Sunday meeting and she was initially mad when she was knocked to the ground in her pretty dress. That snake didn't live to tell.
I've been beating back fiddleback spiders in this new-to-us old house. And recent years have given rise to more black widows. I used to be arachniphobic. Now I know too well what I'm looking at and which ones to kill!

    Glad you're still well, man!
