    Has anyone swapped a 1955 Pontiac ch***is for a 1955 Chevy ch***is. I know the Canadian 55 Pontiac was a Chevy.
I got a Chevy frame for the free price, and am wondering if it would be worth it to put it under my Pontiac? I'm thinking of all the upgrades that are so easy to get for the Chevy and the cost of those parts vise Pontiac parts.
    Any ideas gentleman.

Don't expect the Pontiac body to just bolt right on a Chevy frame....the floors are different, too. The wheelbase is different, so you'll be lengthening it along with changing the mounting points. And figuring out how to put the bumpers on.

Won't work unless you get a Canadian Pontiac body. They are very different from the US version. For one thing the wheelbase is shorter.

What is wrong with the Pontiac frame?

Would also like to point out that Chev parts are cheaper in every sense of the word. Pontiac had bigger stronger suspension, brakes, steering, rear axle, etc. When you pay more you get better parts.

Seriously, if you want a Chev buy a Chev.

  4. I believe the Canadian front sheetmetal was shorter to fit the chevy frame.

Yes, the Canadian Pontiac had a Chevy front end. Anything can be done if you really want it but this isn't a simple swap.

Pontiacs aren't Chevy's and if you want a Pontiac you just have to live with that. If you want to change something the options aren't as readily available and what is, is usually more expensive.

I would love to be able to find some cheap Pontiac fenderwell headers like you can with a Chevy but not enough to put a Chevy in my Pontiac.

    Thanks gentlemen,
There is nothing wrong with the Pontiac, as a matter of a fact most of the work is done on the Pontiac.
I was more wondering if it was possible, and there were things I had not thought about, which there are several thing I hadn't. This is why I ask questions. As well as build my own stuff.
I guess I will just have to start designing stuff for the Pontiac.
I have a 58 Impala, and I like all the suspension up grade options for the Chevy, but I love the 50s Pontiac's, and my 55 is going a cool early 60s style custom.

You could always do a frame clip up front and swap out the rearend. Might be a little easier and let you still get some suspension upgrades. If you want disc brakes, scarebird here on the HAMB sells a kit for the Pontiacs.

5-6 Pontiac hardtop has an X frame like a chevy convert. Anytime you try to swap a frame on this style of car their will be many problems arise. That's just my opinion. With two dollars you can get a Dr. Pepper.

Looks like the original frame is where it is, simply because I want to drive the car this century.
So does any one know where or have seen a power brake set up for the 55 Pontiac?
Thanks for the tip about scarebirds.
