Looking at running two small six volt batteries in parallel on my Plymouth powered 34 Ford. Should give me tons of reserve power and I could jump the both together for extra starting power. This is all in positive ground. My question is can I somehow run the two batteries to a small pair of junction blocks to run a cell charger and maybe a Bluetooth player. Which needs negative ground.
If you run 2 six volt batteries in parallel then it will act like a larger current capacity 6 volt battery. They do make a 6/12 battery that might work for your needs. They are a bit pricey though. If you run 2 six volt batteries in series you can get 12 volts to power your accessories. Just make sure they are electrically isolated from anything metal on your car. You can not run them in series and parallel at the same time.
Cell chargers charge at a rate lower then 6 volts (3-5 volts). Do a search on adding a cell charge to 6 volts here or on the fordbarn. It's a fairly simple. also for about the cost of an addition battery, cables, and time making it work. Portable power supplies: Bunch of options for under $100. probably work great for a bluetooth speaker setup and a cellphone. http://www.duracellpower.com/backup-power/power-packs/powerpack-600.aspx
If you connect a 12 volt negative ground accessory to your stock radio, one side of the input jack on the stock radio could be connected to 'battery ground'. The accessory wiring would be reversed, connecting battery + and - together. Disclaimer: Try these at your own risk
Don't they use a transformer to convert 12V to whatever the charging rate is? Just curious I have never taken one apart.
You are right ******, the device uses a convertor to lower the voltage to the 5 volts (cig phone charger) or what it needs. I think I misunderstood your question.
Wire your cigarette lighters backwards. They won't care and the cell phone will charge. You will have to insulate the cigarette lighter.
