I 'm planning to upgrade my 49 Merc v8 to a 12 volt system. What do I need to make adjustments for in the overdrive components. Which may tolerate the upgrade to 12v and which need to be updated, converted or can be adjusted some way. Also what are good sources for those that need replacement?

    Thanks all!

WHY? My 38 is a 6V positive ground and works perfectly. "Course" I don't have power seats and a 12 channel CD and additional rent-a-car phoo foo but it does have a working tube radio. Use very heavy cables and good wiring and plenty of grounds. Starts and runs great lights burn quite nicely. Just sayin... IMG_0894.jpg

    Gene,

If you want power seats you can use the 6V motors out of a 53' Merc, the best of both worlds. 53' Merc's came with power seats, top and windows as options. My radio is still the 6V AM with static when you go under power lines.
