Thanks gentleman! Keeping it in proportion with the suicide front end was fun!

Finally a day away from prepping and painting the lower cab! My new goal is to have it on the road by July 4th. Here's some picks of the dash work. The wife is already wanting me to sell this to get hear a new Mustang, Boy that was a great conversation about explaining how much corrector this hot rod has over any new Mustang![IMG]

A Lil bit of color! Not a speck of dirt and just about zero orange peal. I ended up going with base clear as lacquer was about out of the stratosphere in cost. A hole bunch of period parts arrived yesterday along with a **** load of stuff from Speedway and Mac's. I went ahead and bit the bullet, got a new 1937 steel tailgate coming. I need to decide to do the beads in the bed sides or go with smooth sides? a few more nights to ponder that.

The color brought outside is a period correct Maroon with more red tone that is not seen in this photo with flash.

Here you go. I have a lot of lines, wires, and rebuild the brakes before I can pull it all out in the full sun for a look see. This glove box door should do for now.

I'm making the recessed bench seat today. Shaping and gluing the foam, then cutting the leather pattern. Later I will get some 1/4" wood for the fire wall, door panels, and side seat. It would look cool with finished wood panels, but this one will get the leather treatment. I'm making the lake style headers for the 8BA flathead as well.

The patterns are cut on the bomber leather bench seat, and sewed up the back and tacked for now. The leather is tough and will hold up to anything you throw at it, including rain. I've decided rather than sewing up French seams, I'm going with copper rivets to accent and fasten the pleats to the back board. I may even do the old vinegar , salt, and ammonia trick to add some blue/green patina to the copper accents.

Some more progress! I'm thinking the wide five wheels and the lake headers will look pretty damn trick painted gun metal grey. The fire wall is M code. I'm going to make some cool stacks for the carbs.
The headers still need finish welding and grinded smooth.

Hey fellas, how would you describe or characterize this 1937 Ford RPU? When showing it how would you describe this build? Traditional rod, traditional custom, custom, period, period custom, retro custom, or custom hot rod?

I would not call it any of the above. You have something unique in my opinion. I don't recall ever seeing one built like that. You have done a good job on it.

edit: maybe a custom hot rod.

Rolled it outside to have a quick look. It's overcast today so the color wont pop until it's sunny. A few new things added.

Way too complicated these days... I'd personally call it a hot rod.

Many decades ago, in my area, "hot rods" mostly were chop/channel coupes. We teenagers, would use the basic term "coupe",.... such as; "did you guys see the 'coupe' that so and so had at the burger joint last night". It never crossed anyone's mind if it was a 32 Pontiac body or a 33 chevy, ford etc.......it was a COUPE :)

The headers are detailed and coated. The brake system is done. Finishing up the bed in the next couple of days. Soon I will tackle the Christ Craft style wood boat floors and wire this bad boy up! It's getting close, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
