Another problem with the mount in pic above identified as "Good" is that the lower rubber piece that goes below the frame mount and also catches/locates the large area washer can not perform that function because the thickness of the lower frame mount is thicker than 1/8 inch, so therefore the large area washer is not captured below the main mount biscuit, and is free to slide around unless maybe its overtorqued. In addition the huge *** hex headed mount bolt just looks bad and the installer is required to drill some very large holes in a mount on the ch***is with a hand drill, unless the ch***is mounts are all fabbed up before being welded to the ch***is. I returned the ones I bought to Speedway for a refund, which they accomplished without complaint.
there really was plenty of rubber that protruded through the frame to isolate the bolt in this case. if this one fails i will keep you all notified.
HA! On my 55 Chevy wagon with 2004R I needed a ****** mount and there were none handy in the parts stores. We live a mile off a 4-lane highway. I was a trucker and know there is usually truck rubber along the road. Just cut a few hunks off a nice looking hunk of tread, got home and cut it to fit the 2004R mount. Been there for years.
So it's a one way street; Speedway can't return them to China once they confirm the run of parts is ****? Speedway knowing sells a sub par product until inventory is exhausted? Because Speedway is "stuck with the parts", they p*** the problem along to their consumers rather than s**** the parts?
Wow! Finally, someone has found a use for those 'Gators'! Good idea. They used to make shoes out of alligators, too...
Yep that pretty much sums it up except for one part that you missed, they know that they are going to get sub par parts from China and buy them anyway because the bottom line is lined with your green backs. Sometimes they will send you another part to replace the bad one or so I have been told. I have never knowingly bought a speedway part so I could not give you first hand knowledge on that part of the deal.
Speedway has always had excellent customer service, and will normally do what the customer wants. Like I said, they do sell some quality parts, they buy from other manufactures, but normally anything that is sold as a Speedway product is an offshore Chinese made part, and usually of very poor quality
I don't know if they could return the parts to the China manufacture, but they make so much money selling these parts, that I guess they don't worry about the ones they have to replace. The botom line is that they are making a killing selling the offshore parts they don't care about the failure rate. I am sure some people never ask for a new one or return the part, they just go elsewhere for their replacement parts
just to update, i called speedway and told them the problem. i told them i had replaced the mount with their universal mount cushion kit #7209314 and asked if i could just get another one of those, instead of replacing it with the ****ty mounts that came in the original kit. the person on the phone replied "that is a good solution" and the part arrived within 2 days, no charge. ****s that it failed but it worked out.
I have these on several engines swap I have done. One set is a SBC jeep TJ http://www.mcmaster.com/#rubber-isolators/=xeotuk Made of a specially formulated rubber, mounts withstand exposure to weather and resist oil, antifreeze, and other petroleum-based fluids. Use for long-term service in compression applications such as electric motors, air compressors, and generators. An unthreaded steel insert in the center of the mount provides stability, while steel washers at the top and bottom addsupport. Temp. range is -40° to 200° F. Rubber is black. Cap. per Mount, lbs. Deflection @ Max. Cap. Durometer O'all Ht. (A) OD (B) ID (C) (D) (E) Each 1,150 0.16" 70A 2 3/8" 2 1/2" 1/2" 1 1/4" 1/4" 7145N2 $24.37 1,650 0.22" 88A 1 11/16" 2 1/2" 1/2" 7/8" 1/4" 7145N1 19.93
Here is an example of a problem they had. The LED replacement bulbs for 1157 bulbs won't fit into most sockets, the light part is too big. They wewe paying less that $1.00 for the bulbs and selling them for a little over $10.00. Talk about profit
Some Chinese manufactures don't know much when it comes to metallurgy, rubber chemistry or materials engineering. They will throw all kinds of low cost materials into their processes. Speedway should do a better job of weeding out substandard suppliers. Anytime we get poor grade parts we should scream ****** murder. Put them out of business and don't buy from them again.
This set up failed do to no inner steel sleeve. The sleeve/ spacer, is there in order to keep from over tighten the ***embly. The parts that, I've shown has the sleeve that is correct for 1/4 steel plate. Dimension E on the diagram is 1/4. Notice the over size thick washers, they clamp down on the sleeve. Picture is for the purpose of showing the bushing and how it keep from over tightening Not the Mc Master Carr ***emble. .
