Hot Rods color advice

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by model A hooligan, May 14, 2015.

  1. Since I can't afford chrome wheels, and I've decoded on a bod color.I just wanted to ask you fellas on wheel color advice, chopped channeled 29 coupe, going with a flatfish gold metallic (similar to hotrod flats) I'd like whrome steelies with this but cost is crazy.I have black walls so gold wheels I don't think would look that good and cream wheels don't sound to great either.so I'm considering black wheels,or gunmetal. Advice?

Since it's your car why do you want someone else to decide on your color. I'm sure you have something in mind. Your not doing it for someone else. Just do it and don't worry about what others will think about liking or disliking it.

Let's see the car in question, what type
Of wheels are on it now?

My buddy says that when it comes to your hotrod you shouldnt worry about cost of parts. Get the chrome wheels.

  6. Don't worry about cost of parts? Well does your buddy want to pay 800$ for my wheels? Yeah I don't have a lot of money.

Trust me I would if I could! I run big n littles, custom rear offset.its 200$ per wheel to have them done at the chrome shop here

  7. The gold may be a little over the top on the gold car at least for me. Maybe if the wheels were gloss against the flat background. Naw just too much for me. ;)

My go to color for wheels on a hot rod has always been black. Unless of course you are talking to the correct physicist then that would be my go to lack of color for wheels on a hot rod is black. Either way it still looks the same. LOL

cream wheels has always said show car or custom to me, I guess you could try the gold if you have enough paint already and if it doesn't fly hit then with black afterward. ;)

I used to know a guy that said that about kids, he was working two jobs to pay child support last I saw him.

    @model A hooligan,
You could paint them now and wait until there was more cash flow then get them chromed.

  8. how about posting up a side view of the car and let someone do that photoshop thing for you

Thought about it---I think maybe a dark maroon. IMO, (which is worth nothing), red and black are overdone. Let the beatings commence.

We reeeaaally need at least one photo to look at.

With out I'll just go with my default. Black walls, 40-48 ford 16's painted gloss black with 40 ford center caps

  11. Well the Hooligan builds a pretty nice car as a rule. But he has no imagination they are all just light and fast. kind of minimalistic if you catch my drift. ;)

I did a search for his car but all I see are a few before photos in his profile, and a bunch of what do you think I should do posts.

Asking what color would look good on a car we can't see is like asking someone how long a piece of string is

I'd try white with a gold pinstripe.

    Red wheels are traditional. HRP

  20. When I first got on the HAMB there was an A coupe for sale with bright green wheels. really sharp car.

Who cares about tradition, I mean hell this isn't a traditional board is it? o_O:confused:

I want a periwinkle car, I don't think it is traditional and I haven't got a clue what it even looks like but I like the name. ;)

depends on what look you're going for. you said you have blackwalls: white wheels & no caps give a race look. maybe paint a number on the door. gloss black w/ small caps &/or rings or spiders would be good for a hot rod look. or, pop on some wheelcovers when you feel like it, to give the car more than one personality.

Black wheels. Put chrome spiders on it or baby moons.
