Has anyone used the Speedway Flathead to C4 Trans Adaptor Kit? How thick is the adaptor? Did you like it? What do you think about it?

I am thinking of buying the Speedway Flathead to C4 Trans Adaptor Kit but I am looking for some info on it so that I can do a mock up with measurements.

I don't need info on the other brands only the Speedway kit.

Dave, I got the adapter kit for a c4 to flathead with a 53 Merc 4 1/8' stroker motor I bought. The one I have is the original mid 60s one made by another company that Speedway either bought or copied. There is a thin steel adapter plate and a thicker aluminum plate. I can send you the dimensions tomorrow morning if that will help.

You should run a search on here, there was a previous thread where the poor guy had nothing but trouble with the kit from speedway.

Dave, the block plate is .075 , the adapter is .380 - it was made by AFB Engineering in Monrovia. I think where people have trouble is with the starter, but the Speedway instructions are pretty thorough about making you've got the correct starter, drive gear, etc. DSCN1290.JPG

Very cool info. Thanks a million! I was reading the instructions and they want you to mill a bit off of the block for the starter to fit. Not a hard detail to manage. Too easy.

Got my Speedway adaptor kit today. It looks way too easy. I am going to install it tomorrow and see what it does.

I have one in My 53, had to grind very little to make starter fit everything else fit spot on.

I put mine on today. I noticed that two of the mounting bolts are not flush and will not tighten any further. This gives me a fraction of an inch ( maybe a 1/32" gap) gap between the plate and the adaptor mount. I guess that I'll have grind the tip of the mounting bolts for them to snug properly.
