Two weeks ago my buddy and I were prowling the swap meet in Rhinebeck looking for new projects and ideas. I was only into the field for 10 minutes and I spot a battery topper. That's a fake Delco battery cover popular for use in restoration circles on 'Vettes, Chevelle's, GTO's and similar stuff. It a smooth top usable on side terminal batteries. My old Chevelle has one but the cover is over 20 years old and it's shabby. The seller tells me he want $15 bucks for it. Very reasonable I'm thinking but I just got there, don't want to lug it around all day and might need the money for something else I need more urgently. This week my Chevelle's battery takes a dump and while changing it out I crack the old topper. It's now trash. Last night I'm searching the web sites I use and prowling thru all my Chevelle catalogs. Those toppers now are priced from $53 bucks up to $82 dollars depending on where you shop. ( Plus $10 bucks shipping). I think I originally paid $18 dollars for my original topper back in 1993. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, mighta!!!! Kicking myself all weekend for not scooping it up when I had the opportunity.
In the toy train world the dealers have signs that say "the best time to buy it, is when you see it."
I just checked Corvette central. They had one for a standard battery for $24.95 and an Optima for $29.95
I have done that a few times at swap meets the old saying is right buy it when you see it because it may not be there later Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
