I am test fitting my 8BA and T-5 in my 34roadster (3 speed body) . The body is hitting the trans just behind the shifter adapter. Question, can I cut this flange off or should I clearance the floor? I don't want to weaken or ruin the trans. I circled the flange in this pic, the camera flash highlighted it but its just part of the case.

Anyone have an opinion? I hate to complicate the trans tunnel I have to build. The good book says if your right hand offends thee, cut it off. Does that apply to borg warner transmissions? What say the HAMB?

I'd think at the least you could cut it at a 45 degree angle so it still serves as a gusset if it is indeed a gusset. I never paid attention to mine to know if it has that tab or not.

If every trans has that gusset then modify the tunnel, you never know when you'll be laying in a puddle by the roadside installing a new trans with no way to cut it off. It has never happened to me, of course, but I hear it could happen.

I'd do this. Mine has the same thing and I would cut it down without a second thought.

I have a 36 Ford with a Y Block and a 5 speed. I cut the gusset away 19000 miles ago. No problem after 8 years

We have done the 45 degree cut and done 6000 Mls in only a few summers . The strength is still there with an angled cut.
