Last year my dad and I went to Meltdown Drags for the first time and had a great time! (except the two hour clean up after the oil down on Sunday afternoon) Before we left the track Friday night the decision that we are coming back next year and bringing a car was already made. At the end of the weekend he stated that the only thing that would make it better would be compe***ion style racing instead of just exhibition type match racing and flagman starts. I've been on the website and it looks like that's what the Hunndert Car Heads up is. Now on Crackbook I see the Hunndert car heads up is set for some time in Sept. ( I forgot the dates already:rolleyes:) at the same track this year. (Wish it was still at the quarter mile track in union Grove Wis.) so I'm wondering which is the better event, and is it the same criteria as the meltdown Drags with no parts on the car newer then 1965. Wheels. etc.

If I had to choose between the two events, the Meltdown would be the winner hands down. I have raced at both every year and enjoy both, but the Meltdown is at least triple the size of the meltdown.

  4. go to both i have had fun at both. i don't think they are on the same day.

My guess is they thought it may be too cold in Oct, plus having no track lights, having it in Sept you'll have more daylight too...
Speed gems you can't go wrong going to both shows! Good time at either!

...I originally heard Oct as well, Sept sounds better weather-wise but then you can't count on anything weather-wise in Illinois.....been watching for an announcement on here but nothing yet.

That's cool. I know there have been some problems at The Grove, but I didn't want to see everything H.A.M.B. friendly leave over some B.S. Thanks.

On a good day the Grove seems to be organized chaos at best. It really isn't a bad track, but could use more attentive owners/management.

The Time Machine Nationals is a two-day event on Labor Day each year. Well worth going to.

Is there a pre-registration for The Heads Up, like there is for The Meltdown? I checked the website and didn't see it mentioned.

What's going on with the Hunnert? I really don't see anymore update posting anywhere. The Meltdown didn't become as big as it is by being one of the best kept secrets in the Midwest. Czars, I think you can get a good turnout but there needs to be more hype about it. Will be there.

...got a reply from Chad,...the Czars are no longer affiliated with the nostalgia days event at Union Grove, it belongs to the U.G. strip.
...the Czars moved their drag event to the Byron, Il. facility, which also helped with scheduling the event without conflicting with other shows in the area,...namely the S**** Drive show/swap,...which is much appreciated.
... more info if I get more.

That's good that they scheduled it on a day that won't conflict with other shows but if no one knows about it, it really won't matter.

^^^ I agree, since there's no longer a HAMB calendar of events, only putting up a thread will spread the word. Don't know if or how they are promoting their event in Sept at Byron....I spose it'll be mentioned or talked about at the Meltdown event but that's not a lot of notice for some people.

Hi fellas. Which is the better event? Well, the Meltdown has exploded! And that's awesome. There's never been any kind of compe***ion between the 2 events. In fact there has been tons of cooperation. The Heads Up was originally started so more street cars could go to a show and compete. The drag cars that came were just a plus, where the Meltdown was focused on drag cars from the start I think. And we love drag cars!

The date is now Sept 12 at Byron. The Tin Butchers will be handling the swap meet, just like the Meltdown. More details on that as they come. And as always, you can get info at our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hunnertcarheadsup OR our website: http://hunnertcarheadsup.com

(The Heads Up was never in October. That was the Pile Up)

Chad, you guys have your own track that day or do you have to share test and tune with modern cars?
