Hi gents... Try as I may I can't seem to find an answer to my clutch pivot question: The clutch pivot (****erfly shaped devise) obviously pilots the cross shaft and bolts to "something" on the frame side. However it "ain't the frame...not directly! There is something between the bolt pattern on the pivot and the frame. Anyone offer a comment or picture? Regardless, thanks as always...
I did find a picture of this on a '49-50 truck. I doubt that this stuff changed on a '52. I don't have any way of posting the pic...it is in the Ford Service Manual, 1949-50 Cars and F Series trucks, dated May 1, 1951. This is the little fat book, not the bigger shop manual. Lubrication section page 13, figure #14. It doesn't show anything extra, just a bracket bolding the ball that goes into end of the cross shaft. The picture is an angled cut-away, showing two bolts of what looks to be a triangular 3 bolt pattern on the bracket.
Gene I have the shaft and swivel from my 51 F1 if you need it. Let me know if you want it. Send me one of those if it fits it ships from the post office and you can have it.
Thank you... I think the "bracket" is what I need. As before my F1 came to me as a kit! Lots of really really nice stuff just piled in the back on plywood. For rhe last 6 or 7 years the truck sat in my hay barn while I worked on the 38 project. Now that its time to work on the F1 I'm finding out what I don't know...which is lots. Car from hell!
Thank you very much Any chance you have the "bracket" the pivot / swivel bolts to? My cross shaft and "****erfly" looking swivel seems to be in good shape. TY g
Gene I just went to the shop and looked at mine, the ****erfly part of that swivel is what bolts to the frame should be two bolt holes in the frame flange to bolt it to. If there is another part I sure don't remember it. If Your photo shows a bracket it must be different from My 51, do you have a 6 cyl or a V8? I went back out to make sure I was right the ****erfly swivel on mine bolts to the bottom frame rail straight across from the shaft through the bell housing.
OK I'll check again. My 52 is a V8 4-speed with really heavy duty (overloads) springs. You may be right it's just that when i'm laying under it looking at the frame I didn't see any place to bolt up the pivot. there are several holes top and bottom but nothing that would accept the pivot. Also it looks like the pivot needs to be in the center of the frame and "away" some. I'll look again. Note: the F1 is 260 miles away in my hay barn. thanks gene
I looked at the one in the link Dan posted, it is totally different from mine on the frame mounting end. Every thing else looks identical.
Thanks all... I'll just have to manufacture something. The drawing Dan posted is closer to what I need! Thanks All PS I still need the 3-speed linkage. Shift rods that go from the collumn to ******...
