I think if it was an automatic it should say Ford-o-Matic.

It gets positioned on the deck lid, not the panel below the lid.

Should be Ford O Matic. The one in the photo appears to be missing the second O.

Would my car have had that badge originally then, suppose it could have had the trunk(boot in the uk) lid replaced in the last 50 or so years!

Ian, I have a Fordomatic emblem off of my 55 (should be the same) that I can send to you free of charge. It might be a little crusty, but you are welcome to it. These are being reproduced for around $ 25.00.

Thanks for the offer. Yes I spotted the repo ones, need to check how that automatic badge is fixed to my car as I might be opening a can of worms paint wise!

Most of the emblems/badges on modern cars that attach to body panels are held on with adhesive. If you can get some of that you wouldn't have to drill into your trunk lid. You might check with some body shops to see what they use.

one other thing on the repo's they do not come with the little retaining bolts tapped.they break easy when trying to run a die to put threads on.over 30 years since I attempted it broke first one bought another went better mind you that was over 30 years ago.if you do decide to drill you will need a template for holes and use barrel clips to mount it rather than trying to run die making threads.as I said this was 30 years ago possibly they now come threaded but I doudt it with stuff being made cheaper and cheaper to say nothing of quality control as I have said before when asked about QC they look at you as if has something to do with an STD. Brodie has a good idea but they would have to be plastic as metal with chrome will not play nice with glue.to say nothing about the paint when it falls off leaving a booger looking mess on lid.on the one I broke I repaired it by drilling a small (tiny )hole in each piece then cut a paper clip inserted in each when bolted on you could only notice by looking very close.took it back off put second one put repaired one away as an in case thing.

patience with a heat gun and fishing line to remove the old emblem, the quality of the paint job will determine the left over mess. plus its on the tail pan?
