Alright sure this has been discussed. What have you come up with for keeping your wide whites from cracking. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
On a serious note, I can only imagine that keeping them clean with an appropriate tire cleaner and using a tire dressing that might offer some UV protection is about all you can do.
I no longer use any sort of bleach chemicals on them, like bleach white etc. Just SOS pads and whatever soap im using on the car. Cant say thats the answer, or if the detergent in the SOS pads is causing harm, but after i started cleaning them that way i no longer saw those small cracks develop or even any discoloration. Tony
Are you referring to alligatoring type cracks? If so I was advised that the chemicals used to clean the whitewalls cause it over time,,especially the bleach type cleaners. HRP
Can't speak to the cracking of white walls, but DB tires say not to use bleach white/etc ......... instead to use Simple Green, SOS pads and similar products to mitigate discoloration.........
I have a question will the white wall type paint fill in the cracks IT SAYS ITS FLEX AND WONT CHIP OR DISCOLOR
Basically the whitewall paints are a rubberized (elastomeric) paint which will fill in cracks and will flex without peeling, but like any other white material it will discolor. HRP
I was just going to say, paint them. My Buddy back in HS in the mid '60's used to paint WW's on as well as use the WW rings that installed between the bead and the rim. The WW rings worked pretty good until you had a flat at speed and they kinda got beat up some.. They did take a couple of try's to put them on though... pdq67
It is obvious to me that the white rubber is defective and that you need to swap them out for black wall tires before you cause a serious accident and hurt yourself or someone else. You will be doing yourself and everyone else with a visual sensitivity to the look of those awful eyesores a favor. This message brought to you from the Get rid of whitewall tires campaign headquarters.
These are brand new super royals by Goodyear. Never been used just sat outside. I did use bleach white won't use it ever again. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanks tony. Do you think if I switch to simple green and green pads to clean I can get down past the cracks over time. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
No problem. Man i really dont know if you're going to get past the cracks that way. You'd have to be pretty aggressive and i still dont think you would. You'd probably have to have them sanded/ground to get past them and if they are vulcanized thats not really an option. At least if you dont use any harsh chemicals it wont keep making it worse. Wish i had a better answer for ya. Id just keep em clean and not worry about the cracks at this point. Tony
Sorry Danny, I have all my life ( from a youngster to now 60 years young ) had a pretty strong dislike of whitewall tires. I think that the list of cars white walls look good on is very small. I have always preferred the clean looks of a black walled tire with no lettering etc. It allows your eye to see other details like the look of the wheels, the stance, tire fit etc. Anyway that's just me.
