falcon carbs only work with falcons because they're set up like that. Apparently the Ford 6 carb is designed to run with the Ford distributor. If you change one, neither will work right. There's a Ford SIx hop up manual taht's full of great info for under $20. I'd also highly reccommend you ask these questions on the OldEconolines yahoo group. They're very active and knowledgeable about all things Econo.

It does sound like your carb though.

That FOrd Six book says that stopping the water from running through the carb base will help keep it cooler and run more efficiently

if all else fails, don't make any left turns. :D

heres my 2 cents.....a buddy of mine went through the same problem a while back with his shitty jeep cherokee. What the problem ended up being is his gas tank was rotting from the inside out and the fuel pick up was getting clogged from all the bits of debris in the tank. He replaced everything (including the pump twice) until he decided to have a look inside the tank, he turned it over and dumped a nice pile of rust on the floor. Something you might want to check if all else fails.

i am ordering a new carb for my van tomorrow

    if it doesnt work....

we need to devise a great plan for sacrificing my van to the gods if this doesnt work.

such as having it completely engulfed in flames plummetting off the vincent thomas bridge into the harbor.

    that would be neato

I have seen this same thing happen 3 times on that same carb from early 60s Ford sixes. Each and everytime it was a bad accelerator pump. Before you drop money on a new carb, go buy a kit and swap out just the pump and see if it helps.
My dad swore off Fords for life after this happened to him and basically gave the car to my uncle. He did the accel. swap for a few bucks and it ran great for a long time. My dad was not amused.:D

  9. One of my great uncles had a similar story with a Chevy, except it was a bee carcass causing the problem.
