Hey everyone, tried doing some searching through the site and haven't had alot of luck finding anything. I just picked up a '55 Ford Mainline and am planning to build it as a 60s Kustom. After some recent talks I been thinking about switching out the dash to something with alittle more chrome. If anyone has any pictures or ideas please let me know
I'm building a '55 Kustomline as an early 60's kustom. My dad and I are currently in the process of swapping the 55 dash for a 56 dash. Probably not exactly what you are looking for but so far as been a pretty easy swap. I have a few other pictures in my album of the swap if you are interested.
Thanks for the post, I have thought about the '56 dash as I like it better then the '55 but I've also thought about something completely off the wall like a dash out of 50's Oldsmobile
I can't believe that someone hasn't tried or seen someone putting a Kustom Dash in a 55-56 Ford? If anyone has pictures please help......
still nothing, I changed the heading alittle hopefully someone will respond if not I guess I'll just have to start getting creative last time to the top, thanks
You might want to post that question on the 52-59 Ford group, some of those guys don't spend much time on the main board. They might be able to help you out.
Well i'm not very far along yet but i'm working on a dash for my 55. I saw a pretty cool on in a wagon at the Des Moines Goodguys show last year. So I got a spare dash from a friend so I can work on it with out tearing the car down. Im going to make it so all the wiring will plug into the car when I get ready to make the swap. I'm using New Vintage Woodland series gauges. Here's few pictures. Got the flat plate and the 1/2 tubing from Lowes. I had the bottle of map gas to use with my propane torch head. Map gas (yellow bottle) is hotter than propane. I bent the tubing around the flat plate. I'm in the process of setting in the 55 dash. The gauges are the BIG ones and require a 4 3/8 hole to mount. Not sure how i'm going to do the taper in the back (really front in the car) that is open now from the stock speedO. Probably some steel braces and then fiberglass/bondo.?? Hope this gives you a spark to get started. OH yes the last picture is from the station wagon in Des Moines and he changed the whole dash. I wanted to keep the stuff from the chrome strip down.??
Why would you want to swap out one of the coolest dashes Ford ever made? I personally love the Astrodial speedometer and am putting one in my '55 F100.
Good day 55styleliner, your right it is a cool stock dash. BUT just wanted a project and love working in my garage shop with metal. Also someone before me, cut out the ignition switch and put late model switch in so the little tang is gone. Also cut out the area where the push buttons com threw from the radio and put in a radio from Crutchfield. The dial is just fake. So the new dash will fix that. I have the original radio and its been converted to 12v. Also found a Motorola reverb and have it working so it will go in soon. Right now got the radio sitting on the floor and the cable stretched out when I was getting the reverb working. Ive also got two new 6 X 9 speakers. Then when the day comes and I swap the dashes I can fix the one that's in the car car now. lso top of it looks like painted with spray can and looks pretty bad.
