My buddy has this 327 short block that he was going to put in his Camaro(opted instead for a 402 SB)
I've never heard of this casting before and I'm hoping some X-Spurts here will chime in.
The main block casting is 3782870...
The date casting code is E 115...or, May 11, 1965
The pour daisy reads, 0900/1000h...poured probably at the end of the morning shift...
The front pad is stamped...F0513HA...or, Flint May 13, 1965.
On back of block is cast the word SPECIAL
This code is cast adjacent to Special...in this manner...H23 872
    S 852
Sorry, my phone is not talking to my computer-I'll try later to post a pic.

    Wow--me either.
May be a match to some of them early f/x fueler heads, aka 461x.
With the dates being so close; that block must have still been warm when it arrived at the assembly plant.

I believe '65 was last year of F.I. and my friend says the guy he bought it from kept the top end of the motor cuz it was F.I. So, maybe.....

Correct, but still never heard of a 327 block with "special" cast into them F.I. or otherwise.
I sure would like to see a picture of the "special" markings I bet I'm not alone.

That's neat. Probably not very "special", but it's interesting.

In the real world if it passes a sonic and crack check, decking and align boring it is as special as you need. Build it and be happy.

  13. Wonder if it would be for something other than a G.M. car or truck.

^^ That's what I'm thinking. Bell housing holes are probably 1/2" different. ;)
