Was Caddo Mills drag strip at the Caddo Mills airport? I am trying to find it on Google Earth...there is a triangular airport (looks abandoned), but farther south is "Redline Raceway," right next to Interstate 30...

The abandoned triangle was the old Caddo Mills,,,Redline is fairly new and no Fast cars,,kinda a grudge race spot On google the north-south portion was the strip .The wide east west was the pits..small leg was unused
This was originally a military use landing strip..

Yes, 296ardun, that is the Caddo Mills airport strip. It hasn't changed. Some high speed runs have been held recently. I am not sure which leg the recent runs were made on.

image.jpg Yes August "Hands" Hartkopf was well known around Texas and beyond and was the original owner of Austin Speed Shop. He also had a match race against The 55 Chevy of Ferd Napfel called the Stormin Bull which was a national record holder. Hands was also a national record holder in 1961.

Elgringo71 - that is a really cool poster. I bet it was a good race. "Hands" has a good reputation. I have several stories about him.

325w, Thanks for posting the Caddo Mills timing card! It would be interesting to know more about Terry Automotive. Anymore out there with more information on Terry Automotive? If I remember my streets right that is in Oak Cliff?
