WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS OLD UNRESTORED HOT RODS. SO IF YOU'RE NOT INTO THAT SORT OF THING, PROBABLY BEST TO MOVE ON. THIS IS FOR GEEKS THAT LIKE WEIRD SHIT. I flew up to hang out with my dad and hit up the Amocat party. First was this guy. On thurs I spotted this thing getting loaded in and it knocked my socks off. Model A Cabriolet. Built in '59. Featured on the cover of the Dec '61 issue of R&C. This dude found this a few weeks ago and he said all he did was polish it up. He didn't even have to air up the tires. It's candy red over silver base, painted by the builder when he was 15. Model B motor with Zepher intake. Interior is AWESOME and original and stitched by Gil top shop. The original Show sign! The second car was built in the 50's and this guy says he just found it. Has no idea what the HAMB is, I told him to get ahold of me so I can learn more about it. I was leaving and HAD to go but he just pulled in to see what was going on. It was SOOOO awesome!!
I can't believe a 15 year old kid sprayed 20 coats of candy apple red lacquer and it looks that good. Still. And looks like the dude in the bitchin yellow A is picking up a few dollars babysitting. Well, not really, but I think like I'd feel like a total perv remarking on the young honey in the passenger seat. I got nieces older than her.
What's funny is that the guy that is in the second pic, Tom Duttrey, owns that Red car and (I'm about 80% sure) found the yellow one earlier this year. He's a damn bird dog and I hate him. (Ok, not really.)
Man,the cabriolet is exactly the kind of car I remember reading about when I was a kid,,I am in love! HRP
Some guys have that talent Brandi. I remember the red one from the magazine. The car was well done to begin with and well cared for it appears. The yellow one looks all to familiar too and I think it was around rod trots in the 80's and 90's quite a bit. It sure has a nice stance.
The yellow car has been around. I know the guys who got her on the road and its previous owner....so it wasn't really just "found"...unless finding it on craigslist counts....haha. I tried to get that car years ago when a fellow club member owned it. I love it....
Yep hotrodprimer. That's exactly what I remember. White wheel wells and all. The detail on that cabriolet is unbelievable. That thing is a timewarp. Wow..
Could not say it better. That is the kind of stuff I remember from the 50's and 60's. Miss those days. Appreciate the post.
Both look like awesome cars! Can't believe the candy has held up so well for this long. Thanks for posting. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
But they're not chopped? Those can't be real hot rods.... I'd take the Cabriolet! Bitchin' car interesting engine for '61 standards but it proves there was no one recipe. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I wonder if the fifteen year old painter went on into a career doing paint jobs like that one? It would be cool to see some more of his work, if any actually exists. What a beautiful car.
Thanks for posting those pics, both those cars are mine, well the 31 is anyways, the yellow 29 I sold last year at Goodguys when I let a friend drive it to the show and I never got it back from him, lol. The only thing on the red 31 that wasn't original to the build in 59 was the license plates which the owner replaced in 63 and I never thought to ask him about the original plates while I was picking the car up from him since I was just so overwhelmed by the whole car but I did call home a couple days ago and he still had the plates from 59 and he's shipping them up so I can get those on the car.
Yeah, I maybe wrong, But I'm fairly sure it's (the yellow coupe) been on ebay a few times over last few years. I specifically remember the Yellow paint job with the rusty stains. The Cabriolet is awsome.
