Ok, I posted the picture of my wheel the other day, here is the plannishing hammer I have been working on. The top comes off of the base, and I can use the base for other things. Shear, bead roller, vise, stuff like that. Sorry for the picture being 300k, but I'm to lazy to resize it right now.

Do you use a foot control or just turn on the air and run it continually?

    from Yakima WA.

A friend of mine bought a planishing hammer from someone and it had a very simple air regulating foot pedal. If you have ever seen one of these clamps that pinch a hose to shut off flow. Anyway this one is similar to that and has a spring which holds the clamp shut and when you press down the flow opens. It is very simple and probably fairly easy to make.

    Hi:
Great job, what kind of hammer did you use? I saw one on the internet that used an aircraft rivet gun I priced them at $105.00 used, would like to use something cheeper to make one.
    Thanks:)

    Hey,

An el cheapo air hammer will planish and shape thinner gages of metal,
but to really shape metal you'll need a #5 of above air hammer.

I completely agree. I've been able to smooth out down to about 14 guage with my p-hammer (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71229), but it only really moves the metal when you're using 18 guage or thinner.

On my plannish hammer I used one of the cheap blow gun attachments with the press down handle. I put the hammer side hose on the exhaust tube and ran compressor side as normal. You will also need a way to hold the pedal. I made a fancy metal bracket for mine but a piece of wood with a hole and clamp bolt for the exhaust tube would work. I think I have all of $6 dollars in mine. Good luck. Pool
