Just picked up a 330 Desoto from So-Cal Wrench, thanks Joe! I am going to talk to Chet Herbert's about grinding a new cam. If you are seriously interested in a new cam, post here. It would seem to me the more guys want them the easier it will be.
I have a '54 276 all machined and ready to ***emble for my '49 Fleetline. I'd be interested in a streetable performance cam.
I'm looking for something a little more wild for my 341 DeSoto hemi. Would be interested to see what grind they would recommend.
I belive hammeredAbone is trying to get him to produce NEW slugs C. Herbert made them back in the day, and if there is a demand for them he can most likely convince Chet to break out the old paperwork and Produce a Brand new Cam. How F@%king cool would that be, have a brand new Cam for your Desoto Hemi. Side note Chet Knows camshafts, He still makes them for Stadium trucks and alot of 1 off applications. If a cam can find extra power Chet will find the grind
Hot Heads is also working on 'em...don't know when they will be ready. Chet used to grind circle track stuff for my Fords...
count me in for a good blower cam for the 291. should use the same blank as a 276. if he was really interested in making something hard to find, try getting in on making new rockers and stands. so many out there are cracked or just plain gone.
It would be cool if new cores were available for all the early hemis. I just ordered a cam from ENGLE for my 354 yesterday morning. It's being ground from a new core. I've got four stock cores I'd gathered for regrinds before they started repopping the Chrysler cam blanks.
I understand that. Almost nothing interchanges. Even in Chrysler you can't put a 392 cam into a 331/354 or vice versa because of the 6 degree bank angle difference. I was just saying that new cores were available for the Chrysler and that it would be cool if they were available for Dodge and Desoto. Guess I wasn't clear.
That's why I posted this! When I call I will tell them of at least 10 guys wanting new cores. I will post and let you guys know what the deal is. Gordon
Hell, I'm looking at buying a '57 DeSoto Fireflite 4dr HT, it could always use a rumpity cam. Count me in - '57 341. The reason no one makes cam cores for Hemis is becuase they're such a pain in the *** to grind for! Different years have different cam sprocket arrangements, different deck heights necessitating different lobe phasing, etc. I don't blame the cam guys for sticking with the SBC market.
I would be interested, something fairly big and just at the upper limit of streetable. 55 291 Fireflite Geno
I talked to Donny over at Chet Herberts and found out they do not want to grind new shafts because they did this and had a 20% failure rate. something about the cast iron casting wearing out prematurely? He did however talk to me about setting up a roller. I am building a fairly mild blower motor 4-71 with about 5# boost. He also said he would regrind my stocker for $75. At this point I think I will go with the roller. if any of you want to contact him for more info: Donny Chet Herbert Speed Shop Anaheim 714-750-1777
Thanks for the heads up. Guess my Blower project will be on hole for a little while. I wonder if the hardening on the lobes was not working well enough and it was wiping lobes? I' also be curious to know if they would grind a billet blank for a desoto. A $75 regrind sure would be a lot cheaper though!
Try Nielson cams. He's an early hemi expert and is working on making new cams for the Desotos. I think they have new ones now for the Dodges. Bill
Hey Hammered A..... Im building a blown 330 and want a decent blower cam that will take advantage of modern tech and the head flow. Im interested in having a HYD roller cam ground for it along with a cast iron dist gear on a billet shaft. Word on the "street" is that Herbert Cams can do em....has this changed? Rat
I have a 55 291 Fireflite and would like a cam for it. Either a good .525 lift hyd. ,, or a hyd. roller?
