Thank you Jim Dillon for that post. I think it was cool and entertaining. Some guys on here just have to look for the negative in everything and it ruins it for everyone else!

That was a great video! Thank you!I have seen many still photos of that car but never expected to see it run.

  3. Great video, thanks for sharing.

And "corndog" you are 100% correct on that last statement.

The race cars of this era do seem to be slightly "over-lubricated".

To add to Jim's comments, if you go to the museum at Indianapolis look at the 1903? Premier. It was built with an open crankcase. You could have watched the crank throw oil out the side. At 923 cubic inches I thought it was big until I saw this video. Would love to witness it running at Goodwood.

There was an earlier video of them ***embling it and the first fire up. The pistons are about like a five gallon pail stuck on a connecting rod.

As already said a couple of times, total loss oiling was acceptable in a racing car at the time.

It's always a surprise to see these fire-eating monsters run, especially when you realize that in spite of all that hard-won refinement through the years, all that tuning, the noise/vibration/harshness elimination, the thousands of inventions to tame the beast, what we drive to the store today is STILL a fire-eating monster at heart.

That was amazing! I must have watched it 20 times. My mother used to tell me when I was little and I think it must be true, that I was born in the wrong era. To witness this fire breathing beast come to life sure thrills me a lot more than any iPhone.
