I have a cracked door gl*** in my 31. I have removed the 3 screws and top cover on the door and also the window garnish moulding. I crank the window all the way up so that the bottom window channel is above the window opening. How do I get the gl*** out of the channel. Does the channel have to come off the window regulator, if so how do you get it off? I think that the window might have cracked because it might have been binding in the side channel or maybe cracked when it was installed in the bottom channel.
As 31Apickup said, remove the gl*** and channel together. From memory there is a slot in the bottom of the channel where the regulator runs. You have to tilt the gl*** and channel at an angle to release it from the regulator (hard to explain). When you have removed the old gl***, install this cork/rubber gl*** bedding around the bottom edge of the new gl*** and tap the gl*** into the channel with a rubber mallet or similar. Well that is how I did it anyway. Good luck. http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_m...-thick-10-roll.html?crosssell=Product_Related
Ok thanks, before I do it I need to get the new rubber/cork seal for the channel. Still not sure why the window cracked, looks awful tight and might have bound up when completely rolled down.
I just happen to have a coupe door in my living room so I snapped a pic for you. I've removed many Model A door windows and I've never take the regulator out. I roll it down to where it is in the pic then I pop the regulator arm out of the channel and lift the window out. You may have to slightly bend the bottom channel down a bit to pop it out...just bend it back later. The bottom part of the channel is just a keeper to keep the regulator arm in the channel. The window rides on the top "V" shaped part of the channel both up and down. Removing the regulator , as mentioned above, will also work but not necessary.
try cutting a wooden strap long enough to hold the window about 1/2 way up... unscrew the regulator, now you can slide the regulator's [wheel] into the channel, then crank the regulator till the mounting holes line up... remove wood !
Toad i have seen the gl*** break in doors when the side channels are worn out/missing . with the window down and the door gets slammed the gl*** will move and crack the gl*** along the bottom.
