recently purchased a 1939 Chevrolet that has been sitting for the past several years. *roughly 8 since last driven.

Car was in a barn when the barn caught on fire, thus the paint pealed back, gl*** broken and a few other issues have risen.

The question I have for the members of the HAMB is, What coil is needed? The universal 6v coils i've found do not include the additional cable/wire connection located on top the coil in the photo. I have not yet removed or inspected it beyond taking this photo. coil.jpg 1939.jpg

It may be ugly but I don't think it got hot enough to warp any metal. The shielded wire on the coil goes back to the switch and you can use later type if you change the switch also. If you want to stay original contact Chevs of the 40s or the Filling Station for parts.
Almost all cars of the era shielded the ignition wiring because the cotton braided wire would get wet and short out leaving you stranded until it dried. Good luck with your build.

...or maybe to keep folks from hot wiring the car, and stealing it.

Thank you for the info aagie! Looking for some more info on the coil with chevys of the 40s now.

I was excited to see the section in your link for the 216 group, but I dont yet have access to that section. I'm guessing my post count isnt high enough.

    Mmmm.
I don't think that post count is a factor. I thought the group was open to view.
    I'll check into it.
