History Video of 1938 Ft. Wayne, Ind. Street Scenes

Got a link from a friend of this video showing kind of a day in the life of Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1938. It's a little slow through the middle but the beginning and ending segments show a lot of great street scenes. Which means there's a lot of great old cars and trucks to spot. There's even a shot of a couple of swoopy old Greyhound busses pulling out of the bus station.

Along with the link came the following explanation of the video's origin.

There is a link below to an absolutely fascinating video sent to us from our friends at Lincoln Financial Group. The film was created in 1938 for an unknown purpose (possibly for a field office or sales meeting) and was found in the company’s archives. The recently digitized film is 21 minutes long and depicts dozens of stunning local scenes.

How many people have had the foresight to do something like that? I really enjoyed watching and imagining what life was like when all that vintage tin was new!

Maybe we could all record a day in the life of where we live. That would be fun to share, especially if old cars were involved!

 

Of course, a lot of the scenes shown here no longer exist. But a surprising amount of them are still intact. The real shame is that they weren't able to somehow repurpose the old Greyhound Bus Station. But that's progress, I guess...

My uncle worked at IH , remember driving past the tower,
It didn't identify the air field , I am ***uming Smith field as Baer field would have been a good bit south of town at that time.
Love the terminology as it starts( This was home to the Indians until Anthony Wayne came and shot them out of here).

Saw several 1940 Fords in the video. Lived in Ft. Wayne from 1966 to 1974. Was in engineering at IH.

Notice that everyone is dressed to the max. Made me think about the cable guy that showed up at my house without a shirt on and looking like he was homeless. Different times for sure..... and no he did not get in.
