I,m not sure I understood this right or if it's even true, but I have read a few articles when putting in a small SBC engine in a model A coupe frame that there is a problem with clearance between the block and the radiator , there is not enough room.If this is true what's the best solution, recess the firewall, lengthen the frame or what ? gene

Stretching the frame is common on fenderless roadsters but a full fendered car would have the proportions all wrong. A SBC with short water pump will fit the stock frame, it's when you start putting in an early Hemi that it gets tight.

  3. Man, there are so many different ways to skin that Cat. Some of it depends on the finish product your after. A cut firewall is the most common being it's the easiest way. No hood,,? just move the Rad forward a bit. If you come up with more ways (and you will) it's already been done.

Recess the firewall, period.. All other ways are "hokey" at best...

The nailhead is a loooong block too.

On my coupe we managed to squeeze it in there by moving the front crossmember forward a little and reversing the firewall which is a totally acceptable AND traditional way to save a couple of inches.

Recessed or reversed firewall may mean less leg room or just less space available inside the car?

I am 6' 2" and have more room than I need. Drove the car 3k miles to/from Texas and didn't once have an issue with legroom.

Reversing the firewall will indeed lose a couple of inches legroom but we made that up with deft sculpting/positioning of the seat.
