The best watch ever made is a $300 Seiko.

I like the look of watches! I think it is the mechanical thing. I have a few but I cannot get used to wearing a watch or any jewelry (wedding ring, any ring, or any other stuff. Just my quirk.:p

My father is also a watch guy he gave me a 1920's omega pocket watch gold filled. It had someone else's initials on it. It sat in a case for 15 years and then one day it was gone. I was pissed until I was handed a hunter case Vacheron to replace it with. A nice upgrade but I still have a soft spot for a old OMEGA.

I would really would like to see a thread in mechanical clocks in old hot rods.

    There is a site, it's called GearJournal.com
But I find this more on topic than off here as it directly relates to a vehicle and it's owner's history...

I remember Rolex watches being sold on Honcho St. in Japan in the late '60s. Your watch appears to be one of those, and they cost $49.95. That was a lot of money to a Sailor in '69. Oh, oh. Hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag.

I've had a lot of watches in the past, nothing expensive until I bought a stainless steel Seiko watch about 20 years ago and I'm still wearing it to this day!

Best watch I have ever owned and is as accurate as any thing on the market. HRP

A sister company that used Rolex cases, but not Rolex movements. Instead, they used the more affordable ETA movements. Sort of like a Ferrari with a SBC - not quite as cool when you lift the hood up, but way more serviceable.

Tudor is one of my favorite brands.

No old truck, car or hotrod, but I do have two old pocket watches that belonged to my Grandfathers (one from each.) The smaller one is silver, with chain and key; I used to wind it every night after I got it repaired/checked out by an old watch guy (although the fink lost the original winding key and replaced it with some other one.) I have it carefully wrapped up and put away in a safe place (back of my underwear drawer.) The other one is big, maybe 3 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter and heavy. No cover over the crystal, so the crystal is very thick. This one is also hidden with the smaller one. I have no idea of makes.

In 89 I was going through a divorce and didn't have a pot to piss in. After getting my new truck repoed my dad gave me his trusty 72 Ranchero GT. it had a Cobra Jet Cleveland and a loose converter with 3:50's out back. What a tire frying rig that ca-ruck was. I called it Red Hot. My dad bought it from a guy in 74, anyway the thing was in very good shape except the paint on the roof above the driver door. After work ( we are earth movers) he would stand with the door open and his left elbow on top the A piller and his watch rubbing back and forth the leather band wore a huge spot down to the metal. On the rear above the B post he had a beer in his hand and there was an area about 2 feet out sweeping down to metal. Every one would B/S and have a few beers before heading home . It wasn't until I started working with my dad did I find out how that paint was all worn off.
The only jewelry I like to wear is .357

I bought this in Tokyo in 1975 for about $55. It's been serviced a few times, and I've bought several other watches since, but it's still exactly the watch I prefer to wear. Excellent service, that.

  24. I like old watches and clocks, always have but I don't like wearing them....weird. My most treasured ones are my Grandfathers Wittnauer and my Grandmothers 1932 girls Mickey watch. Since I don't wear a watch (and up until a month ago no cell phone) all the cars have clocks. A Wittnauer 8 day bomber clock in the '54 and a 20's Westclox in the Model A. Also my girl friend wears my 70's Mickey watch from when I was a kid.
Nothing real special to others, but special to me.

You Rolex Rodder....there I said it! Just kiddin. My Uncle was a watch repairman, learned the trade after he got Polio. Deal was if he could find a way to pay room and board one of the major watch companies in NY would put you through school free. He did it and the local new did a big write up on him because he was the first to get off state aid and open his own business. Back to watches, he had a "drivers" watch that I seriously considered buying and kick myself for not doing because I bought a used Rolex. I don't remember the brand but the watch st****d to your wrist with the numbeers on the dial turned a 1/4 turn. in otherwords the 12 would be where the 3 is and the 3 where the 6 is, you get the idea. Got any of those ?

I rock my Dad's Seiko, but not when I am actually on the horse.

Me and old Ned ride some steep trails, and I get dumped off, from-time-to-time. Dragging *** does not always help.

  29. @Ryan, you should REALLY join the Watchuseek board. You'd love it there.

Here's my vintage collection.. not as good as Ryan's though but they are a bit older. I'd love to have a 5513 Rolex Sub one day..

First up.. the 1915 (white) and 1916 (black) dated "trench" watches.. Both 15 jewel, Swiss made.

And the latest vintage.. a 70's Le Cheminant diver. This has an ETA that @Ryan mentioned above in it.

You have to love honest patina no matter how it occurs. I have a worn spot through the finish of my roadsters door where my knee rest while driving and have wore through the nitro lacquer finish I used on my banjo steering wheel as well. No door panel the last 30 years just my beater car and the most fun. It will get a door panel eventually.;)
