My Dad needs to remove his vent window from his 53 Victoria. Book he has says to remove door gl*** 1st then vent window. We got the door gl*** disconnected from the rollers and took the nuts off that hold the vent window ***embly to the door. Book says to push vent window inward to allow door gl*** to pull out- ain't happening. It raises up about 2 inches above its closed position but then hits a wall. Looks like the stainless molding with the "Victoria" incurisve script has to come off the top of the door in order for the vent window to come out. How is it removed from its clips ? Thanks much !
I feel for you. Sounds like the same on my 56 vic. I managed to get them out but yrs will go by by the time i get back to them as i just stared working on the car and not sure yet how to get them in. I've been taking doors apart for 40 yrs and never seen anything like it.
C'mon guys, nearly 10 days and I have only 1 reply on this ? Some of you gotta have some know-how on this you can share to help my Dad get his Vicky finished and on the road. This is the last thing he has to do on it. Help please...thanks.
Wish I could help from here, Brian... my wife helped me rebuild the tracks and mechanisms in my F100, new Ford tinted gl***, etc. (the incentive was there to finish the job!) But I had a wrestling match with the division bar, those damned things come down like a puzzle, and go back up the same way! If the wing ***'y (with division bar) won't quite come out, there is a triangular bracket that hangs it in the door, seemingly on the stainless 'gunwale trim'. My '53 Vic was stubborn in this area, a friend dropped by the shop (gl*** man) and turned it 20 degrees, and it slipped out. (1976, one of the last 'old' gl*** men) We didn't have to remove the trim, but it sure looked that way. Hope this helps...Windows in Fords are tougher than in PCs.
My car is a '54 Ford and yeah it's a PITA to get the vent window out,as Mike said you need to open the vent window to the inside and lean it over and it comes out. HRP
Did you ever figure out how to do this.? I'm trying to replace my door gl*** on my 1950 Ford but don't know how to get the gl*** out after it is disconnected. Is there a way to unscrew the divider bar (channel between window and the vent window) and tip the whole thing.? Is removing the channel the usual way to get the door windows out.? I have no idea and can't find much.
I don't remember specifics, but when I took the drivers window out of my 52 Victoria I had to remove everything from the door. Most importantly, the window track closest to the door jam--the window crank, lock, window scissor mechanism---I mean everything. I did not have to remove the Victoria trim on top of the outside of the door. I was going to remove the vent ***embly to replace broken vent gl***, but stopped short of that---figured out another way to deal with the gl***. Not a fun project. Good Luck.
Thanks RF Man. Seems like I'm the only guy on earth that didn't know the vent window divider/track would have to be loosened and moved so the window can come out the top. Kinda obvious now. I don't have to remove the regulator (winding) mechanism. My divider was in there pretty solid last night and you need small hands on mine to remove the two bolts with nuts near the vent window latch that hold it on (not sure if this is stock as mine is chopped about 4 inches). Two screws on stock setup are called "division bar center bracket screws". Now that I know what to do, I'll give it a try today. I didn't want to take everything apart until I knew I was doing the right thing.
By the way, mine is a 1950 and I found the entire shop manual online here: https://www.scribd.com/doc/249258710/1949-1950-1951-Ford-P***enger-Car-Shop-Manual#scribd Page 225 gets into door and quarter gl***.
