I have a zips pump riser and need to find some pulleys and a alt bracket can anyone help me with a locate for this stuff? Here are the numembers Alt bracket is #715894 50- 60 chev truck lower pulley is 7 1/4 DIA double vee chevy #3860838 Pump pulley is 6 1/4 DIA double vee Chevy #3905642 Any help? thaks Dave
The pulleys are the same as your regular small block short pump. I installed one on a 36 Ford a few months back and currently in the process of removing it. We put a smaller water pump pulley on, 5" I think to speed up the fan and water but it still overheated. The problem we experinced with it is insufficient water flow.
I always use the ZIP pump ... on my 32's ... I always use a GM purge valve ... ( #10070107 ) and a FlowCooler plate on the back of the pump. I always drill and tap the back of the raised housing and install a thottle return spring bracket too ... I pay particular attention to getting ALL THE AIR out of the system and I never have a problem with enough coolant flow ... but I do use the pulleys they suggest ...
Ok tell me where you got the pulleys and a bracket? thanks again Dave And can you tell me more about that plate for the pump?

Is the numbers that i gave the right ones? I called chevy thay said they are no good? Can you give me the numbers you used? thanks Dave
Randy, I could use the numbers also for future reference. as I am now the owner of two Zips and one SnowWhite (currently on the car) hi-rise waterpumps.
My numbers are Lower pulley # 3850838 Pump pulley # 3995642 I use a Everco #W2493 water neck ... A Gates hose # 20225 on a 32 Ford ... I use a 55 to 57 Chevrolet generator bracket ... for the adjustment. Hope this helps ...
Does anybody actually have a picture of the pulleys that are needed? Is the crank pulley the same as a short chevy water pump or long? I have a box of pulleys to look through but do not have the Zips kit yet and would like to know if I will need to locate pulleys as well. If anyone has some pictures of the pulleys by themselves or a picture on the engine it would be appreciated. Thanks. Greg
Right on. I didn't mean to dig up an old thread but I looked through a bunch of threads and posts only to find that everyone just posted part numbers. Part numbers aren't a whole lot of good when you are looking through boxes and shelves of old used parts. That is what I was looking for. Looks like I need Chevy small block short water pump style pulleys. I am sure I have a crank pulley just need to search through the junk for a water pump pulley. Worst case scenario is to buy a reproduction one. I hate the look of all the fancy aluminum ones. Much appreciated for the info. Thanks. Greg
Worse case scenario is you can go to the local GM dealer and purchase new ones if you can't locate the ones you need in your stash. HRP
I am surprised this would still be available at GM. I would hate to have to go to a GM dealer up here in Canada for a part. Their prices are insane. Even when I beg for a deal up here at the GM parts department it is usually double of what I can find it for in the states. I just some searching though, I was looking up the wrong number before. The Zips instruction sheet is not that legible. The GM PN. 3995642 Water Pump pulley comes up as a good number with plenty of reproductions. With any luck I can find one in my stuff or from one of my buddies. Greg
When Useing a Zipps , MAKE shore you get ALL the air out of the Engine block , Mine keep Going between 180 to 240 after a 30 mint drive , with medical fan , Fan shroud, I did all the little tricks , air bleed in the top of the water pump housing ,3 or 4 Thermostat with small hole (.050 hole ,by pass hose block to pump , ( no heater) different pulley sizes , !!! still the same Problem, drove me Nut's !!! So I took it apart Like the 7th time , I pulled the thermostat out , Fill the block all the way up to thermostat , let set over night abou 5 hrs, I had to refill again, about 1 to 2 qts , then installed thermostat , Then topped radiator off , started let it warm up !Bled the air screw at the pump , Now it says @ 190 all day long even when it's 100 out sides , My set up is a 1930 ford with a cheap Ebay aluminum radiator , with a 327 /365 30 over , I run about 17 initial timing @ 1000 RPM ((with a Vega converter , )) total 37 deg. 10 pound Cap
Thanks for the tips. I will be sure to do my best to get the air out. I do know how it can make a huge difference. Greg
Bought a new water pump from Autozone (Duralast) and it comes with the backing plate on the water pump AND also comes in powder coated alum.
The bleeder valve in this post can be bought thru Dorman. Comes two in a box and has metric threads.makes bleeding much eaiser.
By chance does anyone have a part number for the upper water hose when using the ZIPS pump in a '32? The #20225 looks perfect for the lower.
