Yesterday, my friend Yogi took a chance, and traveled to north Florida, to look at a sea of cl***ics being liquidated. Story goes, they had to be sold ASAP, or going to the s****per. Being a devout Cadillac fan(crest tattoos on his arm) he set his sights on a few tired relics laying dormant, in the hot Florida sun. To a fan of the marque', any example, from the 50's is about as good as it gets. But when you lift the hood and open the doors and find a diamond, in the rough, you seal your deal and throw the football, into the grandstand. SCORE!! This 1956 series 62? 4 door hardtop, with optional dual quad 365 and factory a/c, was scoped up for a mere $3500 clams. Evidently, it could have been obtained for allot less, until some bigmouth, opened the hood and told the seller, how special, the engine was. Obviously needs a "ton" of work, but only missing part seems to be the rear bumper. It comes with a 1955 rear bumper, so maybe he can wheel and deal it for the correct one. Plans call for simply dragging it home, doing a thorough "sorting" and see if the motor is any good. I will direct him towards some Hamb groups, to ***ist in this above average project. Not his first rodeo, so I feel he is up to the challenge. I think she found him, not vice versa. JT
nice, rear ac and it looks like the controller for the autronic eye head lights. very cool........not an easy, or cheap car to restore.
Wow..fla isn't that kind to old cars either...hope he has a good buddy in the chrome business...cool car, hope he can see it through
The air cleaner alone is worth tons of cash. Getting the twin carbs rebuilt will cost a bunch unless he does it himself. Look for the carb tags, they'll confirm the correct parts, 2371S and 2372S (if my memory is correct.)
"Survivor cars" seem to be all the rage, so cleaning and sorting could yield a fun car to cruise around in. New WW tires are gonna be expensive, all by themselves. He did really well, selling his last project, so should have enough funds to get it on the road. (fingers crossed) Yes Floriduh, can be brutal, on cars left outside. Thank God, this was stored under a roof, for quite some time. Only thing that saved it from being a big pile of ****. JT
I love it when suddenly stuff "must go now" even though it's been sitting there for decades. Do you any pics of what else was there, you know, just to rub the salt in more?
I think it's going to take a little more than a hose down and a new set of boots to get this baby cruisin' again. Do I see another build thread in our future? (........... please!!!!)
I did a 57 Barritz in college, plan on a lot of wiring, electrical issues. ^ air filter housing $$$$$$^ carbs are not a problem, unless they are rotted in the bowls.
Got a chance to see it, up close and personal today. Rust??? Yes, but not too bad. Interior is amazing. AND...4 Sabre wheels in the trunk! Original color was like a seafoam green. JT
did good....been there with a dumb *** at an auction a time or two....cost me a little more but I took em' home....and cussed all the way back.......
cool score ... cant wait for the thread on the progress on it what else did they have there ( noticed a few others on the photos )
Nice find. Not cheap to restore especially if any trim is missing since they are a one year only car. I've been working on one for a few months now that I found in a pick a part. Still looking for two pieces of trim that I need to replace.
No real progress, other than a good scrubbing and found some rollers to move it around. Hard to get work done outside, in Floriduh, this time of year. Scorching hot and it rains almost every afternoon. Just as you are getting home from work. Irony is that we have daylight till almost 8:30pm. Has yet to determine if engine turns freely. Says a guy wants to buy the whole motor, for like $3k. I told him "don't you dare" That engine is what makes the whole car. Anything else under the hood, would be sacrilege. Will try and post some more pictures over the weekend. JT
Call the guy at Annapolis cl***ic cars here in md. He probably has everything your buddy needs for that car.
Yeah, selling the engine would leave you with just another lo-dollar '56 Cadillac parts car...I know of a guy here in town has manifold, carbs, air cleaner only - wants $3,000 alone for it...little too pricey for me. I know of one rear bumper here in ColoRODo, it's in decent shape, could be had reasonably cheap but shipping to Florida will kill ya... Congrats on the purchase... R-
Hey Fellas, as fate would have it, looks like my friend may be selling this Cadillac Since we last spoke, he actually got it running and somewhat driving. If anyone is seriously interested and wants to make him a fair offer, PM me. JT
1927graham, it would be a slap in the face of Harley Earl, to cut this one up. Dustless blast the body, put it in primer, rebuild carbs, clean gas tank, rebuild master cylinder and drive it. Truly luxurious automobile
