Here's a nice little '49 Olds that appeared in the Wichita Falls World of Wheels car show this last weekend. Show car people must be a different species than us greasers. I had my '27 T in the same show, but all I did was hose it down at the 25 cent car wash the day before. This guy and his wife are humpin' on this thing all day long on Thursday. They did win lots of awards though. pigpen
He put a '47 Olds grill in it....cool idea. My Dad told me that back in the day each Olds dealership got a '49 with one of those plexgl*** hoods to use in the showroom. A friend in Ohio has one on his '49 and BobK has one hanging on his wall in his garage I believe. It is nice to see the wife helping out.....although it could be her car
Yep, it's all about mechanical art and sculpture...no driving here. No sitting in the car either...if it was an ISCA show...they're vieing for points for new cars, trips, cash and the end of the year at the "Grand Finale"... R-
So the hood is traditional? Thats cool. I like it. Maybe a little less for me. But awesome work. I would have tried for a more traditional look.
Seriously guys, I know the guy and his ol lady they're good people. That car only gets cleaned like that for special shows he told me. BTW: I met him at the junkyard. He had pulled the trunk lid off to pick up an old Cad mill for his other project.
Not perzactly sure what you're refering to, but it's either the top of the center console (pic 3), a rug or her *** (pic 4). Me? I think I would have liked better before they fixed it up.
Whoops! I just noticed the pillow under the front of the hood. As Emily Latilla would have said: "Never Mind".
Yeah thats a dealer hood to show off the New ohv Rocket, i think it plexigl***, i know some of the east coast sleds did plexigl*** cut outs so i guess you could drive around with one right????????
They were called SHOWROOM hoods, they were not supposed to be sold to the public. Mine is now hanging on the wall of my garage, there is another one on a car here in Wisconsin that I have seen several times. I got this from fellow HAMBer TWJoyce. BB
Yes, he said that it was a '47 grille. I like it a lot! They were nice people. I think that they were probably partners in the effort, and yes, it was an ISCA event. pigpen
I really like those hoods. been trying to figure out how i can make a whole hood out of 1/8 lexan and just fog around the out side for a seamless look.
I saw that car at the Wichita, KS show. They are well deserving of every award that the car gathers it is outstanding at what it is. Like almost everyone here it's not my vision because it's not a driver currently but I respect anyone that can rise to the top of whatever game they involve themselves in. I know that some of the show cars that we see are built to drive and do the show tour for a year after they are finihed then move on to driving to the outdoor shows. I wonder how many of the big award winning cars do that? I do know from the recent interest that many of the former Grand National Roadster show winners went on to become drivers. My car was also in the show at Wichita, KS. I hope that everybody noticed how well the wheels shined after my wife and daughter polished them up while I worked on a mechanical gremlin a couple of days before the show. It is a family love of cars at my house.
was it a mock up with just the front clip with the motor seen thru the hood on the showroom floor or was it actually on a car on the show room floor?? i have a 49 olds motor that was suppose to be a display and was wondering if it may have been under one of those hoods? the only bad thing is that the dealership sent it to the high school and after the kids tore it down and rebuilt it and the teacher sticks it in the rain for two yrs. its 60 over and its never been in a car.
