Hey, doing rust removal on my truck project. I am having trouble finding repair panels for the cab. The only spots I need them on are the lower area in front of the doors. I just started digging out about 3/4" of bondo they are made out of... I can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anybody know where I can get them?
If I recall that spot is just single wall and very simple shape, I'd think that if you can put another piece in there, you would have the skill to make a new piece to put in there. I have never looked for a patch panel, but I have yet to see a 36,7,8 that hasn't rusted there so someone may make one.
I don't think anyone makes the panel. It is not just a flat panel it has a raised portion along the lower edge that carries on the profile of the panel below the doors. I ended up making my own. If you need some pictures of what the area looks like let me know and I can take some and post.
Yeah seems like a fairly easy spot to rust. I was hoping to find a repair panel and not have to try to fab something. I'll get in there on the morning and really grind out the bondo to see how far it has rusted. K13, if you have some pictures, I'd really appreciate it. It seemed like the area was shaped strangely when they repaired it, not sure if that's how it's supposed to look.
The panel is flat with a bead that matches the rocker to the fender, I made the panel and welded and then made the small bead and welded. I made a wooden buck for the bead and hammered it to shape. No pics but have done two trucks.
Mine wasn't that bad but generally that seems to be what they are all like. You have everything there to use to build another panel the profile I spoke of is on the lower right with the angle on one end that matched the fender profile.
Hey that looks really good. Maybe I will try to make my own repair panel. I haven't done any more dimples than a share with one bend, but this isn't too much more complicated.
