I have been looking at what transmission may work for my car. krylon32 on HAMB or someone may know what T5 works best with your flathead. Projected hp may play into this as a 100 hp vs 150 hp will behave differently.
The tag numbers will help if you are looking at a T5 to decode it. I have 3 options for engines, all with more power than a flathead.

96 S10 is probably going to have the later Getrag trans with an integral bellhousing. not a t5

What rpm are you looking for? With your approx. 26.7" OD tires, you'll be around 2600-2700 rpm with .68/.73 od ratios at 80 mph, and that would be screaming to me. :D With a stock flathead in a '51 Ford it will take that kind of rpm (or more) to maintain 80 mph.
Two questions-why "80" mph, and why such wide/small od tires on a flathead shoebox? :)

Be aware that many of the adapters take advantage of the longer input shaft only found on the S10 units, of which, there are only two ratio sets.

    One has a 4.03:1 1st gear and a 0.86:1 overdrive.

    The other, a 3.76:1 first, and a 0.72:1 overdrive.

That is a NV3500, with an integral bellhousing, and not a T5.

My flathead has the 4" stroke and is bored out a little with 3 stromberg 97's and a 3/4 race cam and I want it to cruse at 80 because I want to go down the highway comfortably
