I bot a 1948 dodge truck and I'm restoring the truck but the id numbers do not mach up to any dodge id numbers I've seen my id numbers are kDsb a stare I3D80 another start these are stamped on the block there are other numbers that seem to be part of the die for the block 1484929-31 and A2.9.8,55 can any one tell me what this motor is ??
I have a complete 230 dodge engine sitting over here you can get if you need it. what part of the globe are you in?
My guess is that the motor block was cast on line A second shift on 9/8/1955, so you may want to start looking at engines from that year.
casting date from September 1955 means it's probably from a 1956 model car (if it's from a car), or a 1955 piece of industrial equipment, tractor, etc. The letters don't seem to show up anywhere as you've discovered. you can figure out the displacement by measuring the bore and stroke. also it might help us help you, if you carefully proof read your posts and fix the typos before posting.
I agree looks like a mid 50's Dodge replacement engine. Measure bore and stroke as stated already. Check the head length 23 or 25 inches. The US 230 had the 23 inch head. I believe Canadian 230's had the longer head. There is also a difference in thermostat by-pass which took place early 50's. A I'm pretty sure your truck should have a rear sump oil pan for front axle clearance.
Measure length of engine block or head. 23 1/4 = Plymouth/Dodge, 25 = DeSoto, Chrysler, some big Dodge trucks. Measure bore and stroke. 3 1/4 X 4 5/8 = 230 cu in Dodge also used in later fifties Plymouth and in Dodge trucks 3 1/4X 4 3/8 = 217 cu in Plymouth also used in earlier Dodge and Dodge trucks. You most likely have a 56 or 57 Dodge truck engine 230 cu in. Others have mentioned a difference in head gaskets, some motors had a bump at the front of the head with a water passage older ones did not. This is the only diff in the gaskets. An excellent place to get parts and information is Vintage Power Wagons. They specialize in Dodge Power Wagons which used the same motor. Last time I looked they were selling NOS pistons for $75 a set of 6, how good do you want it? http://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/ They can ID your motor if anyone can.
