In my collection of project cars is a 41 ford 2 dr sedan . I plan on chopping it. I have a game plan but I am interested in how others completed their's and possibly ended up with the right profile I want to achieve. Most I see seem to loose it in the back window/ trunk area . Most have a flatten out look . I am only talking a 2.5 to 3 inch cut . I want to give the car a late 40's vibe. So if you guys have some better ideas let me see them. I have been doing custom body and paint for over 40 years so I don't need a how to chop a top thread, I have done plenty of chops already . Just looking for some profile ideas and layouts that you used to attain them. Even after 40+ years I still find people with better ideas than mine! Larry
No one has pictures of chopped 41 to 48 ford's or merc's ?????? I must have boreing car projects . nobody seems to respond to my posts! Oh well just thought somebody might have thoughts on the subject. Later Larry
Leave it unchopped. I think that sedans start looking to long when you chop them. Sorry just my two cents.
These sedans are hard to chop and have them look right. It can be done but it is tough. I think I have only seen one thread on the HAMB about chopping a '46 - '48 Tudor. Some guy from Scandinavia or the Netherlands had a post on his chop a while back. I looked for it but could not find it. Maybe someone can find the post and link it.
I've seen a few and the best looking one was only chopped 2 1/2 inches. I didn't even notice! The cut them and not mess it up is a battle but all the good ones seem to keep the rest in tact. This brings it all forward a few inches and the fenders hang back all weird so you then section the fenders to make them line back up with the rest. If I cut the roof of mine off it will be to put a coupe top on it haha and then chop that
Hi Somebody did a chop on a 2 door 46/48 ford sedan recently on the HAMB was a exremly good job ..just need to search for it....
Thanks for the replies guys. I did come across the one thread . it is just hard to imagin only guy on the hamb chopped a mid 40s sedan. But I am a customizer , not a restorer. I know what I am doing and have excellent eye for lines and details. I just thought it would be fun to see what others had done . Again thanks for the replies! Larry
Thanks chopped '46 . I had also thought about reslopeing the rear window area . I do like how you retained the roof profile . More ideas to think about. Larry
