Technical Hemi Gurus, Camshaft Gurus: Need Valvespring Help!?!

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by crazycasey, Jun 25, 2015.

  1. It is funny how things have changed. When I was little the old time cam grinders said "its all about the ramps" with todays tech it seems that lift and time on the nose is the bigger issue and the ramps are secondary (I am sure that I am a little off base here). I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't be better off to mix modern tech with old school grinds on some of our older engines. best of both worlds.

I have heard good and bad about beehive springs, I am still out to lunch on them. I am always willing to hear good though.

I think that high revving depends a lot on usage. Perhaps 10k is possible with one engine and that sounds cool, but maybe not your best option for one that gets driven for instance. Even a NASCAR engine is only designed and built to go 500 miles. :D

The .500 lift thing isn't like the sound barrier or anything. Think of it as around .500. ;-) I also faced the rockers so that bought me a little. Pushing the envelope is fun!

I run a LA small block in P/SA we have been running beehive springs for about 5 years now with no problems. Currently looking at putting some on a 392 with a 560 lift crane cam using stock valve length.
