I am looking for a chrome shop recommendation in Oregon. I am in Medford but will go as far as Portland. Nothing here in town. I don't need show quality, wait two years, sell the house quality. Just a daily driver. Thanks.
Found this shop, but it seems that there is another one, either in Eugene or maybe Roseburg. <TABLE class=chart cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="95%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=datadark>Star Bright </TD><TD class=datadark>24225 S. I live in Vancouver and have used different Chrome shops over the years. I know of Starbright and have used them. There seems to have been Buisness and Family related problems there that has made me decide Not to go back. There finished product was fine but the total experiance was not for me. I routenly end up back at Oregon Plating 436 s,e, 6th ave 503-232-7416. My one and only issue with them is that it Hurts my wallett. You can't knock there Plating or there Buisness. I guess I just need to accept that Quality Costs more almost quality. They just did the Bright work on my 51 and it's Flawless.
I've spoken to a guy that works at JB's quality metal finishing Inc. They do some nice work, and the price is right. 1-877-256-7923 503-256-7923 They are in Portland
JB's is the middle man. He has all his chrome work done in So. Calif. I just found out.I was told there is a pretty good shop in the Redding/Shasta area.I was at Star Bright today.Took some bumpers in to get straightened. Will see how they do on that before any plating done, which will be about a year away.Just fitting the bumpers to the car first, once they are straight. One thing I found at Star Bright is that pitted bumpers, pot metal & etc, they metal spray it to fill all the pits, sand, then plate. The stuff looked good, that I saw.
J.B,s is just a Broker and shipps parts all over to the cheepest bidder. Go to any local Portland Rod Run and ask about them. You'll hear plenty of Lost parts storys and guys getting parts that wern't there Origional pieces. He has the Cheepest prices alright. The Wizzard
Thanks for the response guys. Medford plating has too bad of a reputation and the last time I spoke with an employe they were not doing chrome at the time.
The owner of JB Chrome Shop in Portland is a broker, he doesn't actually do any plating but instead farms it out to who knows where. I dropped off 2 bumpers in Nov 2014 with the estimate of a 3-4 week turnaround. Now 6 MONTHS LATER just got them. Of course there were countless phone calls made in the meantime and it was always "They're on their way!" "Being delivered this week!" "Going to get them this week!" Warren was always genial on the phone with a "Gee Golly" type of Pa Kettle demeanor. After 4 months he suggested that I call the vendor who's doing the work to find out where my order was. That's when I had had enough and asked "since when does your client have to call your vendor to get an answer?" Well ol' Pa Kettle turned into a completely different person then, hurling personal insults laced with profanity, just really blew up on the phone. He sheepishly called me a few weeks later and once again said "they were on their way". 2 months later I finally got them.
I just realized that this thread is 7 years old. Starbrite, Medford Plating and Oregon Plating are all gone. There is a shop in Salem and I'm McKenzie Chrome in Springfield. I would like to retire. If there any young guys with a little money and a good attitude that would like to get into the metal finishing business give me a holler.
Hey LT1... To be honest you can buy reproduction cheaper, I presume it's for the trucks you listed on your profile. If your flipping the trucks they are made in China and might be good enough. Check out The Filling Station in Lebanon or your favorite supplier. If your working on a nice keeper rechroming your bumpers is the quality way to go. I've been throwing bumpers around for 45 years and 3 out of 4 of us at the shop are over sixty and we still do early car and smaller bumpers like Camaros, but we send the heavier stuff out. We can handle that for you, they are in the $500-600 range. If you know anybody that would like to keep a chrome shop in Oregon send them by, I would like to retire. Red
Both bumpers are for a factory 95 point resto with all NOS parts and no Chinese crap on it. I may have to come see you, I am to old also, lol.
Feds don't "shut " anybody down, They tell them to comply, to a safe environment , adjust, or make a decision. A lot of old chrome shops do not want make the necessary investment, because of costs, old age, whatever. So they close and say "Feds put me out of business." sounds official doesn't it? Try Sherm's Plating, google it, great guy, great business.. (916) 646-0160 Sacramento,Cal. 95815 On another subject, Phoenix Brick had been in business forever, many generations, Feds said make this a safe place to work, The girls said 'No, We be closing.. One walk thru the plant, only old men would work there, till they die,,coff, coff, coff.
Hey all, it really is a sad thing that REAL chrome shops are a dying breed. My hat is off to the guys at McKenzie Chrome, and the other Pacific Northwest chrome shops who are struggling to keep the beauty of electroplating alive.
My hats off to ANY BUSINESS that wants a safe environment for their workers, the PRODUCERS, the product may cost more, but least the workers aren't subjecting themselves to an early sickness or death.
