Hey! Searching for lowering front coil springs for my 1954 cafillac coupe. Have 3" lowering blocks at the rear installed since a lot of years for a little bit tail dragger style but no after the years I wanted to lower it at the front too. What will be the best for the front? 2" or 3"? I don't want to cut the original ones. Did someone knows a shop who sell something? I am from Germany and here I will have to make new ones that is very expensive. Thanks a lot Cheers from Bavaria Nickl
Maybe Eaton spring will spin you out a set if you contact them. I wouldn't drop the front much more then 2" but I would really have to see it to tell you for sure. It would be a long drive for me and the hiway is flooded this time of year.
I agree with beaner, two inches is about the most I'd lower it in the front. Good luck finding springs!
Can you find another car more common with the same size/rate coil spring? Measure your springs diameter, thickness of winding and over all height, try to guess the weight rating for each spring, then shop around for something that fits that way. Even if you can't find a replacement spring the same info would be needed to order custom springs. Just a thought, I would cut the OE spring about .25 a turn and see how you like it, no more than 1/2 turn total. Godspeed MrC.
Original parts group wants over 300 for shipping to Germany and classic industries sadly has no parts for my cadillac coupe
Try asking at the Modified Cad site: http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/forum/index.php they can probably help.
Do a search for a Moog spring catalog, should be easy to find. If you know the stats on the Caddy springs, match up something a little shorter. Expect the spring rate to go up with a shorter spring. Key things to match up are the outer diameter, type of ends and an approximate wire diameter.
